With all the chaos that Manhattan and the east coast got this past weekend with the 2nd biggest winter storm we have had since 1869, many of us stayed indoors and cooked warm and hearty meals that kept us cozy as the snow barreled through outside. One dish that I’m sure many of you made is a winter time classic- Chili! Now what happens when you take some of the best restaurants in New York City and beyond as they make their best versions of Chili, and everything spicy? You get the 5th Annual NYChiliFest, which is happening this coming Sunday at the world famous Chelsea Market.
The event, which is presented by Chelsea Market, Dickson’s Farmstand Meats & The Cleaver Company, will be from 7-9 PM and will benefit WITS (Wellness In The Schools) a New York-based 501 (c) (3) which develops and implements programs that provide healthy foods, healthy environments and opportunities for regular play to help kids learn and grow. Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are available at https://nychilifest2016.
Here is more about this amazing event via their release-
After a year hiatus, Chelsea Market, Dickson’s Farmstand Meats and The Cleaver Company have joined forces to present the fifth NYChiliFest – a supreme celebration of chili, beer and all things spicy at Chelsea Market. Guests of the event will have access to an 800-foot concourse of chili stations served by dozens of New York City’s best restaurants and esteemed chefs.
An exclusive panel of on-site celebrity judges will taste the chilis and award the winning team with the 2016 Chili Champ of NYC title, as well as the illustrious 2016 Golden Chili Mug and grand prize. The runner up will receive an honorable mention and prize.
Dickson’s Farmstand Meats is supplying all of the chefs with 100% dry-aged, locally-raised beef from Wrighteous Organics in Schoharie, NY, as the base for their chili. Reflecting the inspiration of the event, all meat used is from responsibly raised animals to create delicious food.
Additionally, Samuel Adams is pairing four of their favorite chili-eating beers and will be pouring from several locations throughout the concourse while New York Distilling Company pours their signature Rock & Rye cocktails. Musical entertainment for the evening will be provided by The Defibulators, hailing from Brooklyn, New York.
Some of the best and brightest restaurants in New York will be competing in this epic fest of chili and more. Here are the ones that you will see-
Bark Hot Dogs
Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer
Fleisher’s Craft Butchery
Hill Country Barbecue
Fletcher’s Barbecue Brooklyn
Hecho en Dumbo
Los Tacos No.1
The Brooklyn Star
The judges for the event are some pretty big names as well, and rep some of my personal favorite brands out there. They are-
Adam Sachs, editor-in-chief of SAVEUR
Martin Tessarzik, farmer at Wrighteous Organics, Schoharie NY
Brady Lowe, founder of COCHON555
Bill Telepan, Chef at Wellness In The Schools
Lior Lev Sercarz, owner of La Boîte
Alex Raij, owner of Txikito, El Quinto Pino, La Vara, TEKOA
