Getting discovered to be the next big talent sure has taken some different directions as the internet has evolved. Merideth Puckett is a true testament to that as her rise to fame was simply by a friend recording her singing Adele, and the rest is history. Last year, a video of Merideth singing Adele’s massive hit “Rolling In The Deep” went completely viral, garnering close to 20 million views internationally. With her viral fame behind her, Merideth is focusing on becoming a big star in the music world and being known for her own music moving forward.
I chatted with Merideth this past week to discuss her viral fame, new song “Perfect World”, and where she sees her hopeful future. Take a look.
How did you discover at such a young age that music was what you wanted to do in life?
I’ve been surrounded by music my whole life, but once I realized that doors were being opened for me to start a career and that is when I realized that this is the life I want to live.
Was the recording your friend did of you singing Adele sporadic or planned?
Honestly it was totally a spur of the moment. I found out I was gonna sing it five minutes before, and my friend randomly started recording it.
How would you describe the kind of music you produce?
I would say my music is Pop but I have my own special twist on it with Jazz and R&B undertones.
Who are your biggest music inspirations?
It would probably be Aretha Franklin and Alicia Keys
Tell us about your song “Perfect World”. What is it about?
I’m so excited about this song! “Perfect World” is about how no matter what we do the world is never going to be perfect so we have to make it the best we can and keep on living!
What are your plans going into 2017 and beyond?
I’m starting to write my own music so hopefully i can release my first EP soon! I’m also trying to sing at a lot of events and interact with my fans anytime I have the chance. I want to make this my career and entertain and lift up everybody that i can with my music.
