Two Forks is the latest in an amazing line of fast-casual type restaurants right here in Manhattan. With its super convenient location on 40th and Broadway, right near Bryant Park, this fantastic eatery highlights slow cooking and seasonal produce in the best way possible. I stopped by there last night with a friend to experience it all.
The burger/bowl type situation has been done so many times in Manhattan, to where redundancy can really play a factor and the excitement of all of it can die down really quickly. Two Forks couldn’t be any further from that idea in that what they provide is truly delicious and tasty without being fattening or making you worrisome that it will ruin your summer body.
Their mission is simple: pairing slow cooked meats with seasonal sauces and globally inspired sauces. They source from the best farms out there who believe in their philosophies and prepare their meats and slaws fresh each day. What could be better than that?
You have three different options for when you go into Two Forks- either their Signature Buns, Signature Bowls, or you can do a “build your own” where you can choose between both and start from there. What’s even better? All bowl bases are gluten and dairy free! Woohoo. You also have the option for toppings on both (the buns include one, bowls include two). They include everything from House Spicy Pickles to Feta Cheese to Roasted Peppers and so much more. Yummy.
Both me and my friend opted for the bowl editions at Two Forks, and were pleasantly satisfied with what we got in many different ways. I tried their Hot Chick, which came with Pulled Chicken, Harissa Buffalo Sauce, Carrot, Celery Root, Parsnip & Blue Cheese Slaw. I also added the House Spicy Pickles and Roasted Peppers for some added tasting to the mix, but honestly, it didn’t need it! This bowl was out of this world delicious, as it had the right amount of heat to it and the combination of all the flavors blended so incredibly well together. Also, those carrots as the base might be the best carrots I have had in a while! Superbly amazing.
My friend tried their Big Fat Greek and had a similar reaction to what I had in terms of a “flavor explosion” sort of face after her first bite. It came with Pulled Lamb, Green Herb Sauce, Cucumber, Tomato & Olive Slaw. This was one that didn’t need to much in it to still make the entire dish sing incredibly well. If you are jonesing for something on the Greek side, this would be the dish to go for.
If you build your own, you have the option to choose everything from Pennsylvania Lamb to Murray’s Chicken and there is a vegetarian option with their Organic Spaghetti Squash. Their slaws are also incredibly diverse yet are pungent in execution, incuding Roasted Cabbage, Parmesan & Lemon and Cabbage, Carrot & Scallion to name a few. Overall, Two Forks is a place you must go to as soon as possible to experience fast casual in the best way possible.
