Nai Tapas is in a new, East Village location at 2nd Avenue and 5th Street and it already feels like home. This week, I was lucky to taste a selection of Chef Ruben Rodriguez’s Galician rooted small plates accompanied by a flight of Spanish wines. Inspired by his own nai (mother) Rodriquez’s creations bring out the very best of each element used to construct these works of art. [Read more…] about Nai Tapas Finds a New Home in the East Village
Old-Friend Chat n’ Chew Makes a Welcome Return
Too often we hear of New York institutions disappearing into memory and being recalled fondly at parties when reuniting with old friends. “Remember when” and “things were different then” pop up in conversations and we always wonder “what happened?” Well, on April 19th, one of my fondest memories is having a triumphant revival and I couldn’t be more pleased. Chat n’ Chew is back and sharing its “finer dinering” experience! [Read more…] about Old-Friend Chat n’ Chew Makes a Welcome Return
Petaluma in the Upper East Side has a Hit with a Rosé Party
Last night, I was lucky to score a seat at Petaluma for their third Rosé Wine Tasting event of the summer. Five different Rosés from California, Italy, and France were slated for pairings with hits from the Upper East Side favorite’s menu. Manager Albert was incredibly welcoming and friendly. He demonstrated a love of hospitality, not just with us but with all of the other guests as well. Everyone was engaged in and experiencing their meals, rather than just eating them. Osteria Morini Brings Warmth & Delicious Food to SoHo
Last night, shielded away from the cold outside on Lafayette St, in the cozy, rustic interior of a barn disassembled and transported from Emilia-Romagna, Italy, I had a truly inspirational and special pasta. One that was unlike any that I had ever experienced. The Spallina, a tiny double ravioli, with equal portions of squacquerone cheese and rabbit confit, each in its own pillow, conjoined and giving each bite a burst of contrasting and complimentary flavor. First the delicious meatiness of the rabbit and then the soft mellow taste of the cheese. Each Spallina was a bite savored. [Read more…] about Osteria Morini Brings Warmth & Delicious Food to SoHo

Dig Inn Brings Better Options for Breakfast on the UES
I’ve been a fan of Dig Inn for years. Founder/CEO Adam Eskin and Culinary Director Matt Weingarten’s special approach to wholesome, locally-sourced, and vegetable dominant dishes sets them apart from other fast service restaurants. I say “fast service” because this certainly isn’t fast food, and the service from the folk behind the counter is genuinely kind. When i was a personal trainer, I would tell clients that this was one of their best options for quick dining out. The meals are nutrient rich and because they are made of whole, quality ingredients (you easily identify what everything is on your plate) it was simple for them to log the food they were eating. The food is delicious too, with a homecooked look and taste, you won’t feel you have abandoned your kitchen, but simply visited it elsewhere.
