Playwright Horton Foote’s The Traveling Lady premiered on Broadway in October of 1954. Although it ran less than a month and is not one of his better known works, its’ depiction of complex connection and longing remains-63 years later–deeply profound and insightful in Director Austin Pendleton’s latest Off-Broadway production at the Cherry Lane Theatre. “Manhattan” is Back on the Big Screen
While we all love our city in our own way, few of us can claim to have the same raw passion for New York as the legendary writer/director, Woody Allen. So many of his early masterpieces were set in the city, including much–loved movies like Annie Hall and Hannah, and his admiration and adoration of New York shone through in each and every one of them. Of all of Allen’s homages to the Big Apple, perhaps his most glorious celebration of the city comes in the Gershwin–scored classic, Manhattan. From the moment he starts eulogizing about the city offscreen to the soaring strings of “Rhapsody in Blue,” to the end credits, this is a film that is utterly in love with its locations. The Str8UpGayPorn Awards (Top)ple Through Stage 48 During Pride Weekend
The Str8UpGayPorn Awards, which honors the best in gay adult entertainment, took place this past Thursday night at Stage 48 as part of the kickoff for NYC Pride Weekend. I have done gay events in the past that had awards, but never for the adult industry itself, so suffice to say, I was excited in many different aspects to see just exactly what would go down as this is the first time that the website and its owner, Zach Sire, has done something like this. Theater Review: Jim Brochu’s “Zero Hour” is Time Well Spent
I have always hesitated to use the phrase “tour de force” in casual conversation or when writing a theatre review. For some inexplicable reason, I find it to be pretentious or overused-or both. However, Merriam-Webster defines the noun as “a feat or display of strength, skill, or ingenuity.” However, I’m afraid I must break my own rule; for there is no better description I can muster than “tour de force” to summarize Jim Brochu’s one man show Zero Hour. Mumbai Masala Indian Grill’s Bold Flavors Light Up Hamilton Heights
Manhattan Digest’s venture into the foodie world of Harlem continues with a fantastic new spot called Mumbai Masala Indian Grill. The new location, which is wedged between Sugar Hill and Hamilton Heights in Harlem, is the brainchild of Salim Rahman, who owned Tajmahal, Bay Leaf, and currently is the co-owner of Tikka Indian Grill in Williamsburg and Kew Gardens, and Amin Ruhel, who owned Tripti and Dipali. The spot is brand spanking new, only being opened for less than a month now, and I was happy to take my friend and find out why you should take the C, B or D train uptown and experience it in all its glory.
