Escape NYC and head to The Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina
The warm weather is finally here! Our winter dreariness seems to be finally over, and us Manhattanites and Tri-State peeps can finally enjoy time outside and wear shorts without getting judgy looks from other people on the subway. Not only that, but many of us are looking forward to endless travel this summer where we can experience the sun and fun with our friends and family. So why not travel to a place that isn’t that far, yet feels like an escape from your everyday norm? I highly recommend then going to The Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina, located on Star Island road in the heart of Montauk, Long Island. As someone who has primarily lived on Long Island for the majority of my life, I have never quite ventured out to the end of it where Montauk resides, and can now say that I am regretting not doing so as for being a town that is not that large in size can make up for it with what it has to offer, in particular the Resort & Marina.
Billed as The Hamptons “Premier” Destination Resort, MYC’s (Montauk Yacht Club) slogan on the key cards they give you for your hotel room pretty much says it all- “Welcome Home”. The space itself calls for a calming and inviting environment that encompasses you in the beauty that is Montauk. The 100 plus rooms that are available at the MYC are all nautical themed with blue shining throughout. Seeing as that is one of my favorite colors, I was instantly turned on by the gorgeous room they provided to me as the color was splashed throughout. Even better? You open the curtains to a terrace with two furnished beach type chairs that overlook the beach right below us. That is right. The beach is mere steps away. To wake up to a view of the breathtaking ocean with its clear waters and beautiful sunkissed sky was absolutely divine and added to the overall experience that the MYC provided us.
Just like any type of trip, food of course should be something on anyone’s itinerary. Now as great as some of the food was that we tried outside of the resort, you only have to walk a couple of steps to experience their top of the line restaurant located inside of it called The Gulf Coast Kitchen. According to its official site, “Gulf Coast Kitchen will transport you to the warm ambiance of southern coastal manor. The living room-styled lounge opens onto a dining room decorated in shades of white with wicker couches, antique treasures and historic images of the Montauk Yacht Club. The dining room also boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that frame spectacular water views. With an enticing menu that combines local ingredients with impeccable technique, Gulf Coast Kitchen offers a serene setting for family dining or a romantic dinner for two.” If you choose to dine at Gulf Coast, I would recommend trying their fantastic Cape Cod Claw Chowder, Lobster Empanadas, Seafood Linguini and Fresh Grilled Stuff Flounder as they all have an incredible fresh taste to them that really gives the essence of what it is like to be in Montauk. Completely delicious. For something a little more on the go, like during breaks from running in and out of the water, you can try Hurricane Alley which is set to open in the upcoming weeks. Need a hearty breakfast or an afternoon snack? They have you covered. Check it out.
The MYC also has a ton of different outlets for you to relax. Outside of lounging on their incredible beach, you can try their wonderful Spa with several options for you to explore. If you are looking for a Massage you can try anything from a Hot Stone, Reflexology, Deep Tissue and more. Need some body treatments? They have that and more with anything from Sun Kiss Body Bronzing, Back Benefit and Anti-Cellulite to name a few. Finally- facials. A good facials can rejuvenate you ten fold. Want to see what they have to offer? See more here. There is also a fantastic and heated indoor pool, tennis courts, top of the line bar right by the Gulf Coast Kitchen and so much more. All available within feet of the room you are staying in. What could be better?
MYC is also an amazing place to have your next big event. Whether it is your wedding, graduation or something else that is special to you, they have the accommodations to make your day that much better. Overall, MYC is hands down a 10 out of 10 for so many different reasons that you will no doubt have an amazing time upon your arrival. What is even better is that it is easily transportable via train or car. If you are taking the LIRR to Montauk, they have shuttles running consistently to pick you up and drop you off at the resort as well as in town where you will find wonderful mom and pop shops, restaurants and more. Like I said before… simply divine.
For more information on MYC check out their official site. Happy traveling everyone!
Theater Review: 12 Time Tony Nominated FUN HOME
With all of the critical acclaim at its’ feet, it is no small wonder that Fun Home has become one of the hottest musical tickets on Broadway. Originally premiering in 2013 at downtown’s Public Theater, it now has taken up residency in midtown. Just last week, it smashed Circle in the Square’s box office record of any musical that has ever played in the space. What is a wonder however, is the show itself. Herb N’ Kitchen Boasts Fresh, Local & Upscale Gourmet All In One
When you think fast food, you tend to think of places like Wendy’s or McDonald’s, and not necessarily in a positive way. I don’t know anyone going into those places and thinking, “Golly I am going to get fruit instead of fries and a salad instead of a Big Mac”, so generally these things tend to have a negative connotation to them. Minimum costs with little flavor or value to them. What if you could find a place that boasts fresh, local & upscale gourmet all wrapped in one for you and your friends to devour? Look no further than Herb N’ Kitchen, located right inside the New York Hilton Midtown on 6th Avenue between 53rd and 54th street.
Herb N’ Kitchen is conveniently located towards the back of the lobby at the Hilton, and is a perfect example of getting some great food on the go, whether you are coming or going. With the warm weather finally arriving in New York City, it is also a great idea for anyone who is staying at the Hilton or based around the area to pick up a variety of tasty treats, head outside and enjoy the delectables with friends and family.
“With casual dining on the rise, our guests can enjoy quick, healthy and gourmet food options at value-driven prices,” said Beth Scott, vice president, global product development, food & beverage, Hilton Worldwide. “Herb N’ Kitchen provides a fresh, approachable and gourmet concept that engages guests by offering five integrated zones for the ultimate in customization.”
The distinct zones that shape the Herb N’ Kitchen culinary experience at New York Hilton Midtown are: Arrival, a retail-like experience with relevant merchandise in a well-designed display; Barista, offering quick coffee drinks, pastries, fruit and yogurts; Oven, offering flatbreads and burgers; and the Buffet, providing relevant and healthy options for breakfast in a sophisticated, yet relaxed environment in the Dining Room.
Herb N’ Kitchen provides a wide variety of high-quality food from salads, sandwiches and flatbreads to signature specialty items and regional gourmet treats to main courses that appeal to local and international guests. Some of the highlights that stood out for me for anyone to try is their Pat LaFreida Burgers with New York cheddar served on cornmeal kaiser rolls, the Roasted Mushroom and Soppressata Paninis, Margherita and Pepperoni Flatbreads and delicious french fries (Herb N’Fries) as a side dish.
They also have a line of really tasty desserts for you to savor after the main courses are finished. Decently sized for the palette to enjoy yet not overwhelm, I would recommend trying classics like their Cannoli’s, New York Style Cheesecake or Peanut Butter Bar as a great way to finish off what is already a great meal. They also have fresh food items for breakfast options like egg sandwiches, pastries and top of the line illy Coffee as well as delicious salads, cold and hot sandwiches, and daily specials so no matter what you will find what you are looking for.
Overall I think this concept would work well for any travelers or people living in New York City. What is even better is that the price points are great for any budget, and you get quality on top of all of this. For more information on Herb N’Kitchen, check out their official site.
Happy Eating Everyone!
(Dis)honoring Linda Lovelace (Boreman) at the Museum of Sex
Seeing that New York City’s Museum of Sex was temporarily housing a multi-boob shaped moon bounce, I had to pay a visit.
Both fortunately and unfortunately, the moon bounce wasn’t the only big attraction at “MoSex” this mid-April. Before walking through a maze to get to the epic boob bounce on floor three, visitors have to endure a full floor exhibition dedicated to arguably the most famous porn actress of all time, Linda Lovelace.
Mainly meant to showcase her photo shoot with the iconic Milton H. Greene (the man behind the “Black Sitting” photo portraits of Marilyn Monroe), the exhibition covers that and more, including Linda Boreman’s (her last name at birth) relationship with what the museum’s website calls her “husband-manager” Chuck Traynor, whom she’s since come out to denounce as her long-time abuser, the man who literally forced her into prostitution and then porn at gunpoint.
Overall, the Linda Lovelace exhibition is horrifying and, in my humble opinion, should not have been there. I would call it glorifying one woman’s saga of abuse, but instead it seems to gloss over that part of the story. In fact, it would have you believe the abuse was just a “part” of the story, when it truly would be better deemed “the whole story.”
This, of course, is if Boreman’s account is to be believed, and why shouldn’t it? Making up a story of abuse like the one she told in her book, Ordeal, isn’t exactly something people tend to do on a lark. The exhibition, called “The Eve of Porn,” however, does look at Boreman’s story through a lens of doubt. It focuses much more on her porn stardom and all the fabulous celebrities she fucked (Hugh Hefner! Paul Newman and son!) as if these were glorious accolades in her lustrous, happy career.
Only when you make your way around to the latter end of the room do you start reading and hearing about Boreman’s “Ordeal.” According to Boreman, Traynor forced her into pornography and prostitution, threatening her with physical violence, firearms, and mental abuse that went on throughout her entire career. He completely controlled her and her finances, holding her prisoner.
“The Eve of Porn” throws this information in as if it’s an afterthought. If I remember correctly, it almost offers the information that Boreman became an anti-pornography advocate as a fact disconnected from her coerced entry into the industry, as if it’s some big mystery as to why this “Eve of Porn” would ever turn on the world that brought her so much fame and fortune (she attests to never having gotten paid for “Deep Throat,” with Traynor taking the money for her appearance in the film). Again, the exhibition favors glossing over analyzing.
Overall, it seemed that shock value was the main focus. A giant screen in which the sucking part of “Deep Throat” plays on a loop serves as the centerpiece, and the porn “Lovelace” made with canines as co-stars takes up no insignificant portion, either. True, Boreman’s story does tell an important one about the porn industry and its earlier days and the various, controversial stances on it, but her story should most prominently serve as a cautionary tale of intimate partner violence.
Seeing that tucked into the background of this exhibition was frankly disturbing. I felt deeply uncomfortable as I moved through it, but compelled nonetheless to read every sign, hoping for something to redeem the curator, and found very little (Lovelace talking herself about the abuse was just one, small video with poor sound quality playing on a screen greatly overshadowed by “Deep Throat” on the big screen). In a way, though, the exhibit mirrored how people saw this porn industry icon—in the foreground, as a sex goddess to whom no carnal feat was out of reach, and in the very distant shadows, a woman trying to survive in an abusive relationship.
Moving up the stairs to culinary and architectural designers Sam Bompas and Harry Parr’s Funland installation meant entering an entirely different universe, where sex felt more exciting and innocent. Coming straight from reading and hearing about Lovelace starring in bestiality flicks, it took a serious distraction to not feel a little queasy when finally getting to bounce around giant boobs in Funland (the boob moon bounce is what draws everyone to the Museum of Sex right now, isn’t it?). Visitors get exactly that in the mirrored maze that leads to the rest of Funland. Finding the much-awaited inflated boob castle at the end of a winding, mirrored path proved a true challenge.
Overall, the exhibition was more fun than I’d had all week, possibly even month, outside of having sex itself, but it was underwhelming in size. More important to note, it was a true feat of strength, forcing visitors to exercise both their bodies and their minds as they completed challenges like not getting winded as an adult in a moon (boob) bounce for more than five minutes and scaling a rock (boob/dick/butt/vagina) wall.
Kids would have thrived in Funland if their parents deemed it appropriate (though they may have bumped their heads on the glass maze of an entryway one too many times in getting to what they’d consider the “real fun”) and the elderly would have met with a truly difficult time—but neither are the demographic this museum caters to.
As young adults, my friends and I managed semi-swimmingly. We all slipped at the same part on the rock wall and got winded at about the same time in the boob-filled bouncy castle. We thrived in the mirrored entryway, but less so in the carnival game necessary to kill time while waiting for your turn in the boob bounce. The game featured golden, mini-penises (one per player) that inched forward as said player got more wooden balls in a hole. A filler of a game, it seemed a necessary addition to bring the full carnivalesque ambience. The penises were a bit trite, but very cute and ultimately entertaining. I suppose that description could sum up the whole exhibit.
Either way, there was almost enough going on in Funland to lead me away from the disturbed feeling I got walking through “The Eve of Porn.” Almost.

INTERVIEW: Victoria Clark, Broadway’s Sexiest… Grandma?!?
It’s almost impossible to believe that stage veteran Victoria Clark is playing a grandmother in Lerner and Loewe’s Broadway musical revival of Gigi. With her youthful face, boundless vivacity, and lovely demeanor, she carries an offstage flair of immortality. And yet, this Tony Award winning actress, who took home Broadway’s top prize for 2005’s Light in the Piazza has just been nominated again for her role as Mamita, the primary caretaker of young Gigi during Europe’s Belle Epoque.
Manhattan Digest spoke with the self proclaimed “anti-diva” in a recent phone interview to discuss her latest project, her winning secret to staying in shape, the admiration she lavishes on fellow cast members, and her real life pending nuptials.
MD: Were you familiar with Gigi before you took the role?
VC: Not really. I had not read anything by Colette and I’m embarrassed to say that I wasn’t familiar with her prose nor had I seen the movie, which was weird for a musical theater nerd. With so many plays and musicals now, they just offer me the role-which is great! Sometimes it’s actually harder to just get an offer to go into a show without going through the audition process. That process can be quite helpful for actors to prep and research, so the performance needs a lot more work one you start rehearsals when you’ve not had a build-up to it. I prepped by reading as many Colette novels as I could.
MD: Your role as Mamita is one who is quite protective of Gigi and pushes her towards true love, whereas Dee Hoty’s character, Aunt Alicia, is a gold digger who tries to persuade her into marrying for money. Is there any commentary about Gigi making a personal choice and/or deciding upon female empowerment over wealth?
VC: There are many clues in the novella. You know, I try not to watch other performances of the roles I am playing for source material because it’s too easy to steal or get intimidated. Then I realize I am imitating the performance rather than making it my own so, it takes longer to do that, but that’s the way I’ve always worked and it seems to be working for me. What I finally landed on is that Mamita is a larger than life character whose life is very vibrant, and it tends to eat up the energy in the room. When you have a child growing up in that environment, they don’t develop as quickly. If you look at Mamita’s purpose, it is to raise Gigi better than anyone could and also do a better job than she did the first time around with her own daughters. That is where the protectiveness comes from. A lot of my performance is based on the fact that I feel included in her life. As you get older, it’s really nice to not feel left out. By having been raised in both worlds, she is able to make her own choice—which is better than something we adults could have ever imagined for her.
MD: When I saw you in the show, I thought, “This is a typical Victoria Clark role!”
VC: (Laughs) I’m getting really known for these maternal roles. I’ve played a lot of bad guys and a lot of crazy people, but these types are fine with me. There are definitely worse things than being known as a compassionate maternal figure.
MD: What’s been the most rewarding part of this project from its inception at the Kennedy Center until now?
VC: Probably the most rewarding part for me has been working with this company. We all love how inter-generational it is. I get the biggest kick out of working with Cory (Cott) and Vanessa (Hudgens) and Howard (McGillin) . We really are like a family. We older folks are so tickled when the younger people come to us for advice because it’s nice to be consulted upon for certain things. I really look forward to seeing everybody every night. It’s a challenging part, but we realize that we are all in it together. Plus I’ve had some fellow cast members tell me that they really enjoy watching my process, which has been nice. The property itself is a bit dated, but I think that Heidi Thomas (the book writer) did a great job of updating it and making it fun for modern audiences. The set almost looks like a big scrapbook. It is clear that it’s almost a rose-colored memory of that time. When I look back on the happy memories in my life—this is what the show reminds me of, so when I perform, I think about the strong women in my family that have come before me who just loved life and the majority of the show displays snapshots of turning points in a life.
MD: How have you managed to keep your voice in great shape, especially with all the dips we’ve had with weather?
VC: That’s a great question. I rest a lot and I have a part of my voice that I warm up every day, which is the middle of my voice and that is my litmus test and when that gets tired then I have I list of precautions that I take. I start to sleep more and talk less and drink more water. I’ve learned the hard way through the years that I can’t push through like I did when I was younger. By the time my voice is tired, then I’ve missed the warning signs and it’s too late.
MD: Let’s talk more about the costumes. Are you wearing a corset in this show?
VC: I’ve had about a million different things I’ve worn to get into character. I’m one of those people who believes in period undergarments, but I have mild arthritis in my cervical spine, which I’ve had for years. It causes some limited mobility in some of my bones, so at this time, No. I’m not wearing a corset because the costumes are restrictive enough.
MD: Wow! Really? You look so thin in the show. When you first came onstage I thought, “Wow! She looks fabulous!”
VC: (Laughs) Weight Watchers, baby!
MD: Congratulations on that! I remember the first time I saw you was in Titanic: The Musical, which was in 1997, so you have really maintained your girlish figure all these years.
The last time we spoke, you told me that you enjoyed cooking, and that your grandmother was a big influence.
VC: Well, I can’t cook any of the stuff she made. She would make biscuits and gravy and dumplings. Right now, I’m all about raw fruits and vegetables and lean protein with an occasional glass or wine. I love pies and cobblers and all of that stuff, but once I start, I can’t stop! Right now, with the demands of the show, I’m not doing much cooking. Plus, unless it’s chocolate, my fiance doesn’t eat that stuff either.
MD: Speaking of your fiancé, do you have wedding plans in place?
VC: Yes! We’re getting married this August. It will be a small family wedding down south, so there’s never a dull moment! I’ll be taking a vacation from the show for it.
MD: How long are you contracted for Gigi?
VC: For a year. The principal cast is here through March 2016. Did you enjoy Corey and Vanessa?
MD: Yes! I enjoyed them them both. Vanessa is just a burst of energy!
VC: Isn’t she?!? And she’s so sweet and such a good person. She is really diving in head first and I think she is doing a fantastic job. Corey is also giving a breakout performance. I think his moment to moment work and his commitment is something you rarely see in young actors and he’s so dedicated. I think he’s going to be a huge superstar. I made that prediction after the first day of rehearsal. I had to restrain myself from running up to him every day and saying, “You don’t even know what life has in store for you…you don’t even know!” (Laughs) And then I thought, “Ok. Just calm down. Let it unfold for him.” But he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.
MD: Absolutely. Well, thank you so much for talking with me. I am so glad that everything is going well and that you’re in this show.
VC: Me too! It has been such a blessing and a I’ve been so lucky to have these amazing projects to work on. I’m very humbled.
MD: Well, you have had quite a run of great hits and I’m sure you’ll continue to have more. We’ll see you in another 30 years in a revival of The Visit. You’ll be the new Chita Rivera for a new era!
VC: (Laughs) Yeah, maybe. We’ll see…hopefully! If I could do half as well as she’s doing now , that would be awesome!
One On One With The Talented & Brutishly Handsome Colby Jansen
When it comes to physical presence and good looks, you really can’t get better (in my opinion) than Colby Jansen. Colby has done a phenomenal job in the adult industry becoming one of the top performers in his field due to his great looks, ability on camera, as well as developing a huge fan base outside of the lens. Hairy, muscular with a great smile to boot, his versatility in his Men.com scenes have shot him to an all time high with his presence in the gay world and has proven that you don’t need to be a flash in the pan and last longer than most people do in this particular industry.
Already with 5 plus years under him, he currently has his sites set on aspects not only in the adult industry but also in the health & fitness world as well. I recently met him at the 2015 Hookie Awards in New York City, and was struck with his friendly demeanor, charismatic attitude and chiseled good looks which meld together in one amazing package (no pun intended). I stayed in touch with him and finally got a chance to interview him last week when he attended one of the biggest gay events in the world- The White Party in Palm Springs, California. Colby opens up about how he got into this industry in the first place, his thoughts on why our community judges the B in LGBT, why his favorite scene partners are not alike at all and his surprising turn as to what is next for him. Take a look.
Thanks for sitting down with me Colby! So tell me a little bit on how you got yourself into this industry.
I was getting divorced, actually, and dating this girl who happened to be a stripper in DC. Evidently she was doing porn and going to Phoenix to do a scene. She had trust issues with the other guys apparently and wanted me to go with her. I obliged and went with her while she did a shoot, and during that time was approached by someone to do porn myself. The guy pretty much said, “You want to make some real money”? I ended up doing a bunch of scenes for Amateur Straight Guys, which was alright because doing gay porn compared to straight had a much higher dollar value so I made more money in that aspect. This was about six or seven years ago. I was in the industry for a brief time and moved out to LA with my wife Gia then back to Buffalo and decided the industry wasn’t for us and went back to our normal lives.
During that time I was struggling at a crappy job, and financial concerns became an issue. I then decided to get back into the industry full force and it took off bigger than I ever thought it would.
Just for the record here, because there is a lot of back and forth about this on the blogs and stuff, what do you identify yourself sexually as?
Well, I don’t like to label myself as a bisexual, yet it seems that would be a lot easier for many other people to understand. Mainly, it is sex that I like and I just go with it. I have found that in the LGBT community that the B part is actually forgotten about. In group settings, people have a hard time really believing that someone can be bisexual and will constantly question you regarding falling onto one side of the fence. If we want to be an actual community we need to accept each other for who we are and not spend our time judging and being mean if someone doesn’t fit the norm.
When I met you at The Hookies I found it was quite telling that you presented the award for Best Bear/Cub as you embody a lot of what that culture is as you have a “real man” type of build to you. Do you see that becoming a staying trend in the industry? What is your take on that?
There is a real look, but there is also a chemically induced look that a lot of the guys have, muscle wise. A lot of them work very hard on their bodies, don’t get me wrong, but I have a big chip on my shoulders when it comes to guys who use chemical enhancers to get their body where they feel it needs to be. When I was playing football there were guys who were cheating and using all of that stuff, so I’ve had a history of that around me. Then again, there are guys who work their bodies and don’t rely on that. I pride myself on being natural and honestly have been baffled at the positive response that I have gotten in this industry based off of that.
I mean, are you really that shocked though? When I posted the photo of me and you at the awards I was not that surprised by the amounts of comments and likes from all different types of men who have a huge affinity for you. What do you think that is?
I think it has a lot to do with personality. There are a lot of guys who are only friendly and nice to a particular subset of gay men, which doesn’t work with me. I go out of my way to be nice to all different types of people and that in turn makes you approachable. If you are walking around with a smile on your face, people are going to want to talk to you. They see that you are a warm person. If you are walking around with duck face or a scowl then who is going to want to talk to that? No one.
You are of course married to the beautiful Gia Darling, who is a well-known figure in the trans community. Bruce Jenner just recently became the face of that community due to her hugely watched interview with Diane Sawyer. What was both your takes on it?
We actually haven’t really talked about it yet because when the interview came out I was in Palm Springs. I know for a fact that everytime we go to the stores and we see all the gossip magazines, Gia’s heart breaks for her as she gets what she is going through. I only get recognized if I go to a gay bar or what not, she has cameras following her 24/7 so the anxiety level must be through the roof and for her to do what she did is going to be really big for the community in general. What our hope is now that Bruce has done this is that is shifts the public’s perception on the trans community as not just being a sexual fetish for certain people and that they can actually move through society normally without judgment.
So you have been a Men.com exclusive for quite some time now. Have you ever thought of branching off and working with other largely based studios?
I mean, I don’t think you can get bigger than Men.com when they are coming out with new movies every single day. I am very comfortable with where I am with them and really love all the people there. At this point, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
You have done numerous scenes to many people’s liking over the years. Do you have particularly a favorite scene that you have done and why? Also, who would you like to work with that you haven’t yet?
There are two particular men that I really enjoyed working with that happen to be on complete opposites of the spectrum. One is Tyler Sweet, who I did two scenes with- “Crotch Rocket” and “Son Swap”. That was pretty great. The other scene I loved was with Dirk Caber, who was also in “Son Swap”. Two guys that are on completely different ends of the spectrum in terms of looks and age, both extremely attractive guys- it really just depends on the person and the chemistry that I have with them.
When it comes to other performers, I’ve always liked Jake Bass. I’ve always saw him as a super sexy Montreal guy who is really hot. Paddy O’Brien is someone I have always wanted to work with as well as he looks like a lot of fun. We have never met though, he films over in the U.K. whereas I am based here in the states. I get over there maybe once a year and our schedules haven’t worked out, so hopefully sometime in the future we can arrange something.
A constant that I have asked in interviews with other stars like yourself is about the prevalence of bareback porn that is happening in the industry. What is your take on that and is that something you would ever consider doing?
I’ve been approached to do it and I simply won’t. I’m negative and take pRep and all, I just don’t want to put myself in those types of movies. People mimic what they see on these movies and it may have a negative influence on the younger generations out there.
You recently got a lot of coverage due to a scene with Men.com where you read lines from Shakespeare while having an “Autoblow 2” sex toy attached to your manhood. I watched and was impressed and amused throughout, yet turned on of course. Please tell me that was real and you weren’t acting?
God no, that wasn’t acting. Even though the scene itself was only three minutes long, I had been using the Autoblow a little bit beforehand to get myself going hehe. You can see how flush I became, I was awfully pink. They also did me a big favor by giving me the hardest passage to read, which made the whole thing that much more interesting.
A lot of men and women in the industry go beyond the starring aspect and actually make their stage name a brand in many different facets. Is that something you want to do as well?
That happens to be something I am doing currently through Team Beachbody which I have linked to on my Facebook and Instagram. I am a Team Beachbody coach, and that includes all the P90X and Insanity type of workouts. On Facebook I have groups of 10 people and help them move through the 21 day fix which is a good way of losing 10-15 pounds in 3 weeks. It is a really good thing for anybody who wants to shed a bunch of pounds or who wants to reset their eating regiment. It is a portion control thing with a meal replacement shake called “Shakeology”. That is what I am moving towards and within the next couple of months I will be coming out with my own line of protein shakes and some creatine types that can help people achieve a weight level that they are comfortable being at while being healthy throughout.
In conclusion, what is a good end goal for you in this industry?
I guess my ultimate goal is to keep doing what I am doing but branch out so there is a lasting type of effect. That is where my motivation is with the weight loss and the healthy eating type of thing, because there is nothing cooler than getting an email from someone who says that I was their inspiration for getting fit and being happy while doing so. I’ve had people send me all types of great messages and that is the kind of thing that is my driving force in doing all of this.

Theater Review: THE UNEXPECTED GUEST
Richard Warwick is dead. His wife, Laura (Pamela Sabaugh) stands before him, gun in hand. But is she the murderer? Herein lies the major question in Theater Breaking Through Barrier’s current revamp of Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest. For the next two hours and thirty minutes, members of Warwick’s house are questioned, suspected, and motivated to find the true killer.
Originally premiering in 1958, the play is a rather lumbering piece of theater. As it is with most stage adaptations of Christie’s work, there is seemingly infinite exposition in an attempt to strip away the evidence of clues. Fortunately, this talented cast makes the most of the material by keeping the pace of what could be an unendurable exercise light and breezy. Nicholas Viselli shines in the title role as a gentleman who stumbles upon the corpse after a roadside car breakdown. Sabaugh strikes effective chemistry with her co-star and the two handle the overly loquacious script, balancing it with the right amount of levity and intrigue. The remaining ensemble complements their leading players, each having their “moments” of shared secrets and in some cases, interrogation.
Christie spent a great deal of time crafting the plot, but the primary riddle audiences will be left asking themselves is, “Why does any of this matter?” All of her characters point to the fact that Warwick was a demanding, abusive alcoholic whose demise is almost celebratory. Perhaps these proclamations add to the mystery?
While The Unexpected Guest might not be one the most enigmatic shows you’re likely to see, high credit should be paid to this fine acting troupe and it will be a delight to watch their quality continue in upcoming works.

Get To Know Actress & Author Kimberly Amato
Author. Actress. Outspoken LGBT Activist. Just some of the words you can describe for the uber talented Kimberly Amato. There isn’t much that Kimberly can’t do in today’s day and age. Write a super impressive novel (Steele Resolve) with many more to come? Check. Star in a popular YouTube series? (Nic & Kimmie Show)? Double check. Kimberly has kept herself quite busy in her acting and writing career over the past ten years, and has a lot more to come in the future. Check out our exclusive interview we did with her at Manhattan Digest.
What inspired you to get into acting in the first place?
It was so many things, but primarily it was the idea of being someone other than myself. I could have any job, hobby, name, family – but I didn’t have to be Kimberly. I could explore the world from the set of any production.
Do you have any particular actor/actress, movie or TV show that really was the driving force in getting you into this particular industry?
Jodie Foster. She has such a way about her and her work ethic. Her ability to showcase her talents in so many different roles was inspiring. As I got older and read more about her, I was more fascinated. She’s a brilliant woman who moves me to spread my wings and continue fighting for my career.
Your IMDB profile is very impressive. What has been your favorite role you have taken on so far and why?
I loved playing “Raven” in “Under The Raven’s Wing”. The writing was great, availability to improv was supported and it was the most versatile character ever. During one day of shooting I went from calm to angry to emotionally drained – it was awesome.
A ton of debate has been going on lately regarding female roles in Hollywood, and how they are expanding beyond the stereotypical types. What are your thoughts on that?
I think it is a bit of a double edged sword. I do happen to see more roles for women that are out of the mold – but they are being played by younger women. The older actresses are more on television and have more “classic” roles handed to them. We can be anything, but at a certain point we are no longer viable for an action hero character. Men are afforded longevity in areas like that. It’s also interesting that when women are cast in these tougher, more action based roles – they are brought down by men only referencing their beauty. Most recently two stars of the Avengers referred to the Black Widow as a whore. In jest or not, it sets a precedent to younger people.
Another example is actress/activist Angelina Jolie speaking to the U.N. on the crisis in Syria. The Syrian U.N. Ambassador, Bashar Ja’afari was asked his opinion on her speech – he said she was beautiful. No matter how many roles, directorial successes women seem to have or expand into – it always comes back to how we look and not who we are.
Do you have a particular actor, actress or director you are dying to work with?
Joss Whedon, Jodie Foster and Angelina Jolie – they bring such rich stories to the screen with well-developed characters. Not to mention, I have always wanted to play an action hero or a vampire hunter.
You are also an author of a book called “Steele Resolve”. What is it about?
It’s about Jasmine Steele, a detective who had her life going in the right direction. She was happy with her job, even through it was a detour from her dream. She had the love of her life and was planning to take the next step. Then she got a call that all families dread. Her brother was murdered in a car accident. Her life fell apart. She’s raising her nephew and had no room to deal with her grief. She lost connections with friends, her work suffered and she lost her soulmate. Now a series of murders all relate back to that fateful night. She has to find a way to figure it all out before someone else she loves dies.
Would you consider doing more novels in the future?
Oh yes! I am currently working on Melting Steele – book 2 of the Steele Series. I would love to continue writing the Steele Series for as long as the fanbase allows. Beyond that I have several other books and screenplays outlined just waiting to be put to page – er computer screen.
You are also part of the LGBT community. What was your take on Bruce Jenner’s revelation this past week?
I was very thankful that someone with more visibility actually stood up and expressed themselves. I will be honest and say I have friends on Facebook that I would love to see documentaries on. Bruce was courageous yes, but he has money and support. Many others out there are alone and we need to see them as well for a more rounded view of the issue.
What strides do you think we still need to take overall as a community?
We need to change the negative views that we are deviants, rapists, pedophiles and whatever else people say. We need to speak of the reality with factual based arguments and not fight one another. After Bruce Jenner spoke, people were asking me about what sport he should be allowed to play and what bathroom he should use if he doesn’t get a full sex change operation. They asked me about how he could identify as straight if he felt he was a woman. Some of these questions came from supporters and members of our community. The answer is simple – It doesn’t matter. We live in a society with a need to categorize everything. We are not criminals, we don’t need a registry – we need acceptance. If we can change that, maybe we have a chance, but we must stand as one. I’d like to think this is all possible.
Anything else you have going on in 2015 and beyond you can share?
I do have Melting Steele and Breaking Steele on my to-do list and I have been auditioning as much as possible. Other than that, I am working on my webseries endeavor with Nicole Stiegelbauer called The Nic & Kimmie Show. We are planning to shoot more episodes this summer.
Review: GiGi New York Embossed Python Leather Crossbody & Wallet
The brand best known for its luxurious python leather products, GiGi New York, offers the finest combination of classic and edgy style that one will find in bags and their accompanying accessories. The visible pattern and texture if the python skin with the durability of the highest quality leather are only the most obvious attributes of their products that one sees at a first glance. Actually use their products, and a whole different world of distinction and beauty is opened up to you.
The day my GiGi New York items came in the mail, it was easily the most exciting snail mail I’ve gotten in 2015. Packaged in a durable black box with their logo stamped in gold foil, were my new go-to items. First, I opened the embossed python leather crossbody bag, and then the embossed python leather phone wallet to match. Each item was individually packaged in protective plastic bagging, with leather cleaning towels, complete with the GiGi logo, enclosed.
From the first finger I laid on the python leather, I knew I was touching one the best quality items one could own. GiGi New York sources their leathers from all parts of the world, utilizing every region’s specialties, including the worldwide leaders in fashion tanning, Italy and France. Most of the products are made in the United States, guaranteeing the greatest attention to detail in the creation of every item.
Excited to use my new bag and wallet, I quickly began a top to
bottom inspection of the products. The bag is 10 inches wide and 8 inches tall with a detachable adjustable strap, offering up to a 27 inch drop from shoulder to bag. It has a zip top closure, and a front pocket that zips closed, as well. On the front of the bag there is a simple logo plate attached at the top, in the center of where the widest section of the python leather runs. Inside the bag is a soft material, stamped with the GiGi logo, giving a delicate look to the durable interior of the bag.
The bag is both chic and practical, with a slick appearance yet reasonable size for day to day use. It has proven to perfect for day trips when you don’t want to bring much with you, as well as for regular use like work and family visits. With spring in the works and summer around the corner, the crossbody is ideal for festivals and outings in the nice weather. Because of its size, it will hold what you need for the day without weighing down your arm during the time you’re trying to enjoy yourself.
The phone wallet is 7 inches wide and 4 inches tall, fitting perfectly inside the crossbody bag. The wallet also features the logo plate in the widest section of the leather, creating a flawlessly balanced look between the embossed leather and the metal add-ons. There are two spaces for cash, a zip closure back pocket for change, six credit card slots, and a slot to hold a variety of phone types- Apple and Android alike.
The wallet is easily the most versatile item I’ve owned. It fits great in any regular size bag, it tucks away just right in the crossbody, and it’s even excellent just on its own. The slot for the phone is what has me cheering the most. I didn’t want to get tangled in bag straps while maneuvering groceries, so I opted for a wallet only excursion with my phone securely tucked away inside of it. Not to mention, the wallet zip on the top and only one side, so when I opened it to pay, my belongings were not out in the open.
After being introduced to GiGi New York and experiencing their products first hand, there isn’t another brand I’d go to for this type of unmatched quality. Well, except for their parent company, Graphic Image.
All GiGi products come with the option for personalization of up to three letters, which can add the finishing touch to a gift for yourself or a loved one. So, head over to their site now to check out their variety of top quality items, and be sure to sign up for their e-mail list to receive 10% off your next purchase!
