A Day Spent Eating in Manhattan- Where to Dine and Dish?

by Ashley N. Barrow

When spending a day and night in Manhattan, it’s hard not to spend it a tasty place to eat. If you’re looking for a delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner then you don’t have to walk any more than a few steps outside of your hotel room.   Last weekend, I spent the day in Manhattan, where I had the chance to try restaurants I’ve never heard of before. It’s always nice to expand your horizon, especially when it comes to food.

Upon arrival, we we’re starving so we went to Wolfgang’s Steakhouse. You would be surprised though because we didn’t order steak, yet the food was still delicious. Instead, we all ordered a Crab Salad and Oysters. Funny, how I mention that because it was just recently National Oyster Day! It was interesting that we ordered it in Manhattan because the seafood tasted like it was just taken out of the ocean and tasted extremely fresh.

After attending a play during the day we decided that it would be best to try Italian food because who doesn’t enjoy a nice & hearty meal in the city? The restaurant we attended was called Casa Nonna which we just so happened to walk into on our way back to the hotel, without a reservation. When walking into the restaurant, it appeared to be fine dining and there was a bar with people who looked like they might have been in their mid-twenties or early thirties. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the host with a warm smile and seated.

The wait was a little long considering there were only a few people in the restaurant considering we arrived at 9:00 at night but it was definitely worth the wait. I ordered Frutti Di Mare which was encompassed with bread crumb taglioni, shrimp, calamari, mussels, and clams. When orderin,  I asked for no bread crumbs and the waiter replied by saying that the they make the pasta fresh with bread crumbs and that I wouldn’t even be able to taste them. He was right! My mom ordered Porcini Freschi E Ricotta Mezzaluna which included fresh Porcini mushrooms. Ricotta cheese, spring peas, and porcini butter sauce. She seemed to really enjoy it and asked me if I wanted to try some. It didn’t really fit my taste buds but that’s just me because I can be a picky eater.

So, if you’re looking to find something to eat in Manhattan then definitely try the two restaurants listed below because you won’t be disappointed. When looking for something delicious you will be able to find anything from seafood to Italian in the melting pot!
