by Brad Johnson

Film festival fans rejoice!  A big one is on its way in less than two weeks!  This one is the 7th Annual SoHo International Film Festival, taking place June 9th to the 16th.  The event will take place entirely at Village East Cinemas, which is located at 189 2nd Avenue at 12th Street.  They just announced the full schedule for this today, and it looks like it is going to be a bit hit!

By enticing filmmakers, journalists and cineastes from The US and across the globe, SOHO Film Fest draws audiences to New York City–known for its artistic community and cultural sophistication–helping boost the profile, the sense of pride, and the economy of the local community and the city itself.

With nearly a hundred selections in this year’s festival, notable films in Exhibition include “South 32” from Jake Barsha starring Melissa Archer (One Life to Live, Youthful Daze) and Mollee Gray as well as “79 Parts” from Ari Taub starring Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, The Expendables, Inherent Vice) and “Intersection“ from Tim Frech starring Hoyt Richards (Six Days Seven Nights, CSI: Miami) and Tony Longo (Mulholland Drive, Eraser) plus many more.

Some of this year’s Award-winning Documentaries are “Happy Lucky Golden Tofu Panda Dragon Good Time Fun Fun Show” by SOHO Alumni Carrie Preston (“True Blood”, “Crowded”) along with “The Dwavernaut” by director Josh Bishop; “Legends of Freestyle” from Steve Stanulis starring Lisa Velez (Kiss of Death, Gladiator) and “Translacion: The March to the Altar of Uncertainty” from director Will Fredo.

Features in competition also include this year’s record number of premieres like Shamim Sarif‘s “Despite The Falling Snow“ (UK) starring Rebecca Ferguson, Charles Dance, Antje Traue and Oliver Jackson-Cohen; World Premiere for the short film “The Last Hunt“ (US) by Matthew Daddario (“Shadowhunters”, “Cabin Fever”) Brock Harris (“Major Crimes”, “Sam”); World Premiere of “The Hollow” (US) starring William Sadler, David Warshofsky, William Forsythe and director Miles Doleac; International Premiere of “Esoterika: Maynila” (PH) by iconic Filipino Director Elwood Perez.

Adding to the excitement of the event, many of the selected films will hold Q & A sessions with cast & crew members following each screening; along with panels, social events, and other networking opportunities for everyone involved. Leading figures from all disciplines of the film industry including distributors and media will also be in attendance.
