Here are a few facts about me — I’m a musical theatre performer. I love beets in all forms. And dogs are the best things in the whole world.

Last week, I was given an opportunity to combine all of these things together at Feinstein’s/54 Below – the super fun lounge-y cabaret restaurant under Studio 54, which is now a Broadway theatre. Amy’s Bread, an extremely popular and loved bakery and deli in the city, has teamed up with Broadway Barks, an adoption event set up by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore and produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS to help adopt out the hundreds of shelter dogs and cats who need homes in the city. I rescued my dog last spring, so this is near and dear to my heart. Amy’s Bread created “Chef Sandwiches for Good”. Using their breads and ingredients, Amy’s Bread selects a different chef every month to make a sandwich, and proceeds from the sandwiches go to the charity of the chef’s choice. It’s really an incredible way to make sandwiches by amazing chefs accessible, as well as helping out charities.

From now through the end of August, Amy’s Bread is offering the “Broadway Beets” sandwich, created by Feinstein’s/54 Below’s Chef Lynn Bound. A portion of the proceeds will go to Broadway Barks. The sandwich itself is healthy and fresh – roasted beets, veggies, and Camembert cheese. It’s served on Amy’s Bread’s whole wheat seeded sandwich roll. It’s absolutely delicious, and a perfect, filling sandwich during this excruciating August heat. Chef Bound also served a Watermelon and Tomato Gazpacho with roasted corn – an unbelievably refreshing chilled soup combining my three top favorite summer ingredients. Chef Bound has been with Feinstein’s/54 Below since 2014, and teamed up with Amy’s Bread for this event because of her intense love of dogs. She had rescued several herself, and sent us all home with dog treat cookies she made herself. (My girl LOVED her cookie, and she doesn’t really like treats.)

Swing by Amy’s Bread through the end of the month and try Chef Lynn Bound’s “Broadway Beets”. Spread the word on social media by tagging @AmysBread, and using the hashtag #ChefSandwichesForGood.
