With each whistling blow of the October wind, and your hair billowing around your face as you hail a cab, remember this; you’re losing essential moisture in your hair, skin and nails. Ever wonder why your scalp is so itchy lately? Or that your skin feels tight and dry, like it will crack open if you move too much? Well kids, just like the summer months where we had to hydrate from within with lots of water; it is quite imperative that we hydrate from the outside as well this time around. Noticing a theme here? Moisture! Your body needs it inside and out, so with these colder months coming up, all that natural goodness our bodies produce is being sucked up by the elements like a vacuum. So it’s time you start replenishing it!

Let’s start from the top; your hair. By this time in the game your scalp probably feels as if it will split open like the Red Sea if you brush your hair one more time, and your tresses probably feel like something you feed Mr. Ed. Eww, girl drink some water. Luckily, I have a solution. Ms. Jessica Alba has done us another favor by introducing a line of hair care products under her Honest Company umbrella. Drum roll please! Alba has come out with three types of shampoo and conditioner, Hydration, Restoration and Volume. (Don’t even think about the last one at this time because it dries out the hair, that’s how volume products work Boo Boo. I am a Hair Stylist if you’re wondering where I get my information from.) In addition she has developed styling aids too, and they are just as amazing!

So- I’ve had the pleasure of being gifted a set of the moisturizing cleanser and conditioner, called Beyond Hydrated. And let me tell you guys- it REALLY WORKS! It smells amazing without being overpowering and while it cleansed very well, it also left my hair and scalp feeling exceptionally well taken care of. Not greasy or too heavy and certainly shiny and soft. What was probably my favorite part about using these products was that I felt safe doing so because they are formulated without any harsh or virtually detrimental chemicals and ingredients. They are made without the following; sulfates, silicones, parabens, PEG’s, Polyquaterniums, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oil (Nasty!), Paraffins, DEA/MEA/ TEA, Streareth-n, formaldehyde carriers and synthetic fragrances or dyes. JEEZ that was a mouthful but basically all those ingredients cause Cancer or neuro damage and are toxic to our bodies once absorbed.
Beyond Hydrated is however, formulated with almond oil and coconut juice so you get nothing but the good stuff. What a relief that there is a hair care line out there to target specific needs that won’t make us feel like we will die after using it. Thanks Jessica! Fair warning, the products are a little pricey BUT, I always say you can’t put a price on health and invest in yourself a little. You can afford to do that, at least.

Since I know you’re not washing your hair everyday (RIGHT?!), Alba and her team also developed a dry conditioner and shine serum in one to use in between washings. This is your go to product for those days when you need a little extra love on your dry, parched ends. Literally, it goes on dry hair. It is a truly lightweight formula with avocado, grapeseed and sea buckthorn oil designed to accommodate all hair types. Add accordingly for your particular desired level of moisture. I like to put it from my ears to my ends, as a rule of thumb so that nothing gets too greasy on my scalp. If you’re more into using products on wet hair try her Beyond Hydrated Moisture Milk Leave-In Conditioner. Yes…you can use this in ADDITION to your regularly scheduled conditioner. What’s unique about this product is that it has hyaluronic acid to help hair look healthy and hydrated, which also shuts the cuticle down so less frizz and fly-aways as a bonus. White tea, Tocotrienols and Niacinamide provide antioxidant benefits which help improve the youthfulness of our hair.
Everything you have read about here was tested by myself for the benefit of letting you know if it was worth the splurge. And I can tell you that it is. Her products are cruelty free and dermatologically tested and never use animal by products.

Pro Tip; If you’re interested in trying these products out for yourself, head on over to your local Ulta on Thursday, October 20th between the hours of 4 and 8 pm for a $15 blowout featuring ONLY Honest hair products. It’s the best way to see how you like the line and this way you’re not faced with the crippling fear of “ GASP! What if I don’t like it after I bought it?!” (The answer is…”Keep the receipt.”) For more information on The Honest Company, check out their official site.
