Ben Vereen is back. Actually, he hasn’t been far from the public eye with recent television appearances on Magnum P.I., Sneaky Pete, and Bull. Last fall, he packed the house for two performances at The Cutting Room. Next week, he’ll take his groove further uptown to Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
From April 4th-7th, The Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe Winner will perform two shows a night: 7:30 and 9:30 pm. Vereen told Manhattan Digest that the show is “a tribute to my friend, Sammy Davis Jr., and some other big band people.” Expect to also hear some tunes from his most well known Broadway shows including Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Pippin, and Wicked.
“Wynton Marsalis has been kind enough to let me do this show–and he’s given me Juilliard Jazz ensemble which is gonna be really hot,” Vereen enthused. Liisi Lafontaine, star of the West End revival of Dreamgirls and Vereen’s goddaughter, will also join him on stage each night.

This writer caught his engagement last fall at the Cutting Room and echos the raves from the New York Observer who proclaimed “It’s always pleasant to spend time in the company of a survivor, a pro, and a performing prince. Ben Vereen is all three.” He’s also a diehard advocate of arts education and the developer of the clothing line, Spiritual Enforcer.
Prepare ye the way of Vereen. His is a gospel worth proclaiming.
An Evening With Ben Vereen April 4-7, 2019. 7:30 and 9:30 PM each night. Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center (Broadway and 60th). For tickets and more information, click here.
