London’s ‘Ruthless! The Musical’ with Kim Maresca Now on Broadway HD

by Ryan Leeds

Her competition might be dead, but Tina Denmark‘s terror will reign forever on the internet. The central character from the 2018 London production of Ruthless! The Musical has found residency on Broadway HD, the streaming digital platform.

Star Kim Maresca, who also appeared in 2015’s  Off-Broadway version, held court last week at the swank Tuscany Steakhouse to celebrate the show’s digital release. Several cast and crew members, producers, and publicists were on hand to raise a glass to Maresca and the campy comedy. Guests were treated to fresh seafood or steak at the West 58th street hotspot that combines traditional American fare with favorites from Italy.

Ruthless! The Musical, by Joel Paley (book and lyrics) and Marvin Laird (music), originally opened off-Broadway in 1992. Laura Bell Bundy originated the role of Tina Denmark and would-be-famous stars Natalie Portman and Britney Spears were cast as understudies.

In 2014, the show was remounted at The Triad for a Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS benefit. A year later, it moved to the St. Luke’s theatre where it enjoyed a successful run with Tracy Jai Edwards, Andrea McCullough, and Paul Pecorino. All three attended the dinner.

Maresca told Manhattan Digest that she’s “dabbling with stand-up comedy,” but when asked where it would happen, she smiled and demurred, “I’m not telling you!”  She’s either: a) nervous or b) entertaining members of the Witness Security Program. Who knows? Perhaps the next Kathy Griffin will emerge!

Ruthless! The Musical is available now on Broadway HD. To view the trailer and for more information, click here.
