Pepolino in TriBeCa is Worth The Trip Downtown: Here’s Why

by Brad Johnson

Want to be transported to Italy from New York City? Go to Pepolino. This TriBeCa hotspot covers the grounds when it comes to authentic Italian cooking done just right that will leave you wanting to go back time and time again.

Pepolino is already located in such a beautiful part of Manhattan where Al Fresco dining would be more than OK even if we weren’t primarily doing it due to us still being in phase 2.

They have done an excellent job at providing an intimate experience outside especially when day turns into night where you are surrounded by beautiful glowing lights.

The wait will be worth it when indoor dining is available again as the inside of Pepolino is simply spectacular with its rich colors and beautiful seating that is reminiscent of something you would find in Italy.

For now their focus is providing every one of their patrons with something special or two (or more) from their wonderfully put together Italian menu.

Come hungry is my first note. If you arrive on an empty stomach then you are a plain fool as Pepolino is designed to have you devour at least 3-4 heartwarming dishes.

Second note: try a little something from each part of the menu. Start light with their Panzanella Salad that is beautifully dressed in white wine vinegar. Get a little warmer after that by tasting their Gamberi e Calamari Fritti (Fried Shrimp & Calamari served over Endive & Chopped Tomato). A dish that is crisp and tasty and will no doubt be a crowd favorite.

Third note: PASTA! You can’t go to a place like this and not dig in on something that millions of us enjoy practically on a daily basis. I recommend swirling your fork around in their Linguine nere di mare (Black Linguini with seafood in a fresh spicy tomato sauce) and Malfatti burro e salvia (Spinach & ricotta gnocchi in a butter & sage sauce). Two classic Italian-style dishes where the accompaniments (AKA sauce) act as an amazing supporting role to the two different types of perfectly cooked pasta prepared.

Fourth note: dessert. I don’t care how full you are. Just try their Torta di Ricotta (Ricotta Cheesecake). Arguably one of the best desserts I’ve ever had in my entire life. You won’t regret it.
