Omicron might be frightful, but music at Birdland is truly delightful. For the 12th consecutive year, Klea Blackhurst, Jim Caruso, and Billy Stritch have joined forces for A Swinging Birdland Christmas. Bass player Steve Doyle and drummer Daniel Glass will accompany the trio.
The five-night engagement kicked off last evening. It will play nightly at 5:30 PM at the famed music club through December 25th. Audiences can expect to hear familiar Christmas tunes as well as lesser-known pieces like “Stuck in the Chimney”, “It Happened in Sun Valley” and “Kay Thompson’s Jingle Bells.” (For those unfamiliar with the late Thompson, do yourself a favor and hear her version here.) There will also be a tribute to Freddy Cole, a member of the Birdland family who passed away last year
Those wishing to listen to this tight knit trio throughout the holiday season can access their 2019 album, Christmas at Birdland on Spotify , iTunes, or amazon.
