Tucked away on a side street in Manhattan, on the third floor of a non-descript building, magic is unfolding through James Meneses’ Healing Mined. Rosie Corr directs a talented trio including Luis Carlos de la Lombana as Gonzalo the Animal Boy, a boxer suffering from delusion and mental illness. Jeremiah Garcia plays Jacob, his son, while Amilia Shaw rounds out the cast playing multiple roles.
Though not a traditional musical, Natalie Brice provides the lush, ethereal music that underscores this 75 minute adventure.
Those who have personally dealt with mental illness will appreciate this fantastical tale that ultimately offers redemption and hope.
The magic, however, will be short lived, as Healing Mined plays its final performance on Sunday, April 27th. Perhaps with some mystical luck and generous funding, this modest production will find a larger life.
Healing Mined plays at TheaterLab, 357 West 36th Street, 3rd Fl. through April 27th. For tickets and information, click here.
