New York Fashion Week, one of the most iconic weeks in the best city in the world, is wrapping up another successful week of events including some of the biggest and up and coming designers in the world. A notable one that ran their show last week is KYE, who presented their 2016 Fall/Winter collection at Skylight Clarkson Square last Thursday. Here is some more info on their fabulous show.

KYE’s latest collection focuses on unconventional silhouettes, mixture of bold contrasting color blocking and mix matched styling. The collection is heavily influenced by variety of retro, unisex streetwear from different periods.

Designer Kathleen Kye feels that the zombies are metaphor of a people nowadays who are lacking human fundamentals and only filled with desire and instincts. As she lately finds herself living hectic life with void and lost in intensions, she fears to find herself to turn out as one of the zombies. This collection is a statement that KYE is going back to basics, with improvements and her pledge of dedication.

This season, KYE presents different types of color palettes, mixture of multi textures, multi fabrics and development of interesting techniques. Royal blue, electric lime, red, olive, plaid and other colors were used effectively in the materials such as, faux fur, velvet, corduroy, various jerseys and etc. Also techniques like, knitted ribbing, silk printing, embroidery and flocking were used throughout the collection. The parody image of Iron Maiden’s Eddie is used as homage throughout the collection with other graphics.

Designer Kathleen Hanhee Kye earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at her London’s Central Saint Martins and made her debut in the F/W 2011 season at London Fashion Week with her label KYE. She was elected as one of the ones to watch menswear Designer for her S/S 2012 collection. She quickly became one of the fashion designers most admired by K-pop stars after making her Seoul Fashion Week debut during the S/S 2013 season. She then advanced to New York Fashion Week as a member of Concept Korea, a collective of celebrated young designers, and staged her shows for five consecutive seasons until F/W 2014. She was also one of the 30 finalists of the LVMH Prize. Kye received SFDF (Samsung Fashion Design Fund) Award in 2015. Many authoritative press organizations such as VOGUE, MTV, Forbes and Reuters pointed to Kye as an “emerging designer to watch” and “a trailblazer of new fashion trends.”
