The warm weather has finally reached us Manhattanites, as Spring is just around the corner. As we set to Spring forward this Sunday, several different New York City hotspots are pulling out all the stops to make sure you go out and enjoy yourself. One in particular that is doing this is The Gilroy, who is rolling out a brand new cocktail hour to bring in the seasons ahead.
For those who don’t know, The Gilroy is a laboratory, where the bartenders are constantly working to come up with new recipes, wild ingredients, and flavors to please a crowd that ranges from neighborhood regulars, groups of young professionals, and romantic couples. It is this spirit of curiosity, invention and creativity that also makes The Gilroy a magnet for industry types, drawing chefs and other staffers from the restaurant world post-service for late night cocktails and snacks.

The menu features $10 signature cocktails such as the Gilroy Negroni and Irish Penicillin, as well as a “Catch of the Day” in which guests choose a Spirit and the bartender on duty will whip up a brand new creation on the spot. A variety of craft beers on tap are offered at $4 a piece as well as $7 featured wines by the glass. And because no cocktail hour is truly complete without snacks, The Gilroy is throwing in a few specially priced menu items to complement your choice of drink. Bluepoint Oysters are being shelled out for just $1 a piece, Angus Sliders for $3 per, and $10 will get you a generous helping of Mac & Cheese or a specialty Flat of your choice. That means that $20 will afford you a beer and dinner (including tip) – and no one can complain about that!
The Gilroy is located at 1561 Second Avenue, 212-744-1100, www.thegilroynyc.com. Hours of operation: Open everyday 5PM-4AM. Specials offered during happy hour, Monday to Friday (5PM-7PM) include discounts on beers and a selection of cocktails, including one special feature created each week. Weather permitting, there is al fresco seating for 28. There is an excellent space in the back room that can be rented out for private events.
