April to October is my favorite time of the year. That’s right, y’all. Baseball season. I start watching the games during spring training and I watch them all the way through the last game of the World Series. Unfortunately, being from Texas, I don’t get to see many games with my team (RANGERS NATION!!) live up here in the city. And THAT is why we need sports bars. The Grayson, on 1st Avenue, just north of Houston, is exactly the place for someone like me.

I went last week for a drink and a quick bite. The house cocktail list is diverse, with each drink named after a street in the area. I tried a spicy jalapeño drink (The Prince), a refreshing minty bourbon cocktail (The Lafayette), and a fresh, bright gin concoction (The Ludlow). In addition to the cocktail list, there’s an extensive draught beer selection, as well as bottles. (Is there anything better than watching a baseball game with an ice cold beer?)

The answer is yes. Because in a bar like this, I can watch all the games I’m interested in, ice cold beer, AND a pile of Buffalo Wings. Or Nachos. Or Loaded Tater Tots. (Y’all!! Get the tater tots!!!.) All of which are delicious and exactly the kind of food I want while watching sports. The bar-fare selection is excellent – with sliders, chicken tenders, quesadillas, and the like.

And then there are the burgers. The Grayson Burger is awesome, with a fried egg and 1000 island dressing. If that doesn’t make your mouth water, don’t worry, there are eleven (!!) other burger options. There are also sandwiches, and salads, for those looking for something slightly lighter. For those on the hungrier side, there’s an entree selection with roast chicken, stir-fry, fajitas, and steak frites.

Boasting over 30 televisions, a DJ, and daily specials, (in addition to a Trivia Night – Wednesday’s) The Grayson is my new go-to for watching my team. For more information, check out their official site.
