Jazz is one of our most historic and iconic types of music, and is something that should be appreciated a lot more than it is today. Luckily for us Manhattanites, we have the opportunity to enjoy the best of the new wave of jazz music all under one roof for the rest of the summer. This is called Session at the Circle, which starts tonight at Columbus Circle. The event will take place each Tuesday until August 30th, and will feature young and upcoming jazz artists including trumpeter/Wynton Marsalis protégé Riley Mulherkar and Christie Dashiell of NBC’s “The Sing-Off”.

The free evening concerts (Tuesdays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., through Aug. 30) on the second-level concourse showcase a range of jazz styles, from the big-band sounds of Zaccai Curtis to smoky renditions of the Great American Songbook by Allyson Briggs and classic tenor saxophone riffs from Camille Thurman.

There is even a Jazz for Young People session (Aug. 9), where folks of all ages are invited to swing and sway to joyous rhythms as they learn about the essence of the music! How fun is that. Take a look at the lineup they have for you this summer, it looks like it is going to be a ton of fun!
