What to Expect at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday…

by Ryan Shea

One of the biggest award shows is happening this Sunday, as the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards returns to its home of New York City after a three year absence.  The VMA’s are heading to one of the most iconic locations in Manhattan, Madison Square Garden, and will be star studded as ever as some of the biggest music stars in the universe will compete for the coveted moonmen trophy.  So what exactly should we expect for the legendary ceremony?

Confirmed performers include Britney Spears featuring G-Eazy, Future, Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas featuring Ty Dolla $ign, as well as The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey, who currently have the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Closer”.  Pre-show performers include huge artists including Alessia Cara, Lukas Graham and Jidenna.

Confirmed to attend are major A-listers including Jimmy Fallon, Michael Phelps and gold-winning Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman. Other big names include Kanye West, Troye Sivan, Bryson Tiller, 2 Chainz, DNCE, Panic! At The Disco, Zara Larsson, Mike Taylor, and Desiigner.

Of course, there will also be major moments for the winners as well. Will Beyonce win her second Video of the Year award for “Formation”, or will Adele have her first shot at it with “Hello”?  Will Justin Bieber outshine his competition in “Sorry”, or will Kanye West’s controversial “Famous” take the crown?  All will be solved this coming Sunday night at 9PM EST on MTV.  Check your local listings.
