Drag Brunch New York first launched at Señor Frogs in Times Square last January. It became an immediate hit for the restaurant chain who later added the brunch to their Miami Beach and Las Vegas locations. When news broke this month that the Times Square location of Señor Frongs was closing, it appeared “Drag Brunch” would be ending, until Hard Rock Cafe came calling.
“It’s exciting that Hard Rock Cafe saw the value in adding a drag show to its weekend”, says Voss. “I’m not surprised. Drag queens are in right now. Over the past few months our event that started as a place where the city’s glitterati could kick off their heels and let down their hair has become a destination for out-of-towners as well.”
The move to Hard Rock Cafe, a much larger venue with a Broadway style proscenium stage and elevated tiered seating, will be an upgrade for “Drag Brunch”. “We’re raising the production value to match the new space,” explains Voss. “We’re revamping the show with new costumes, dancers and larger production numbers.”
Brandon Voss has become known for his high concept parties at some of New York’s most exclusive venues, such as The Palace Hotel, W Hotels, Marquee, and the Dream Downtown. He also regularly produces hot ticket events featuring a-list stars including Lady Gaga, Cher, Caitlyn Jenner, and others.
Drag Brunch performs two revue-style shows each week, opening with a big, choreographed number featuring the entire cast. Each queen gets her moment to shine in a solo performance, and the show closes with another ensemble performance. “It’s more than a drag queen lip sync show,” confirms Voss. “Its a real drag extravaganza.”
