Smooth and sophistication are just two works that describe the Meatpacking District to a tee, and the restaurants within them are what add to this sweet ambiance that make this part of the city simply fab. Kola House, located on West 15th Street between 9th and 10th avenue, is included in all of those fun adjectives and is one of the best places to head to this coming summer. I stopped by there Friday night for a taste of what they had to offer, and here is why you should as well.
With chef Jon Feshan on the ones and twos of its culinary scene, Kola House breathes some titillating air within its surroundings as it combines one of a kind cocktails with shareable Modern American fair, all under one roof. This is a spot to be seen, and is one I can definitely see some of the trendiest socialities, social media influencers and celebrities stopping by this summer as its dark lighting and fixtures make for a truly wonderful and interesting experience.
This location has spaciousness written to a tee, as its beautiful and modern design make it scrumptious to even look at. I haven’t even gotten to the food yet and I’m already using food related adjectives just to describe how it looks! I love the intimacy of spaces like Kola House as it is ever so inviting for a small group of your friends or a first date with hopefully your next partner in crime.
Speaking of cocktails, Kola House has an amazing new cocktail that you must try called their Whistle Blows My Blues Away, which is perfect for the 80 degree weather we will be having this week and hopefully the rest of the summer. Crafted by esteemed Mixologist, Pamela Wiznitzer, this gin infused blue pea flower drink contains hints of strawberry, lime, white tea cordial and soda – making it light and fizzy and not to mention, visually pleasing!
The menu isn’t large, but I have learned in so many reviews on Manhattan Digest that it doesn’t need to be a book to get the point across that the food they make is fantastic. And the food at this place is that, and then some. Chef Jon, who has over twenty years of culinary experience here in The Big Apple, definitely knows what he is doing with his Modern American take on things, and here are the dishes I recommend you try the next time you are here.
Their Cauliflower dish in the Apps & Snacks category was simply divine. It had a ton of great supporting cast members (composed of turmeric onion, spiced walnut, parsley and poached egg)within it that built on the flavor of the Cauliflower tenfold and made for a great starter meal.
They also have a wonderful line of pastas and entrees, but I was in the food for something pizza related and beelined for their Avocado Pizza, which is just as delicious as it looks above. Swarming with slices of avocado and onion all across the top make this for an avocado lovers dream and one you can easily eat in one sitting (if you are that hungry). Definitely check this place out before it becomes impossible to even get a reservation, trust me on this!
