The Big Apple BBQ came strolling in and around Madison Square Park this past weekend, where thousands of barbecue fans stormed the area to experience the best this city and country has to offer. From meats to sauces to ice cream and everything in between, this event brought all kinds of people together in unison for a very tasty and messy day!
This is the 15th year for this big celebration, which highlights pit masters from all over the nation who come to the greatest city in the world and show off their “chops” to hungry Manhattanites and tourists. Three big barbecue spots from NYC participated in this- Dinosaur Bar-B-Cue, Blue Smoke and my personal favorite, Hill Country. There were plenty other amazing BBQ joints highlighted at the event from Alabama, Illinois and Texas to name a few.
The two day event went beyond the usual BBQ style and dove head first into a great selection of beers from Brooklyn Brewery as well as two on campus Beer Gardens to indulge in. If you aren’t a beer fan like myself, then there definitely was plenty of vendors for you to keep your mouth and body cool. Take for instance Natalie’s Orchid Island Juices. The Big Apple BBQ also had a ton of great music throughout the weekend for people to jam to while shoving their mouths with some of the tastiest BBQ they have ever had (myself included on this). Overall, this is for sure a family friendly event that should be up your alley if you enjoy some great food in a fantastic setting during one of the best months of the year.
