Antigone Rising Brings BeachFest Back to New York in September!

by Ryan Shea

Here’s a fun word: concert.  Here’s another fun word: free.  Here’s a fun and great saying: for a great cause.  Combine all three and you get the 4th Annual BeachFest, kicking off on Saturday, September 16th out on Long Island at the Sea Cliff Beach Pavilion.  All-female country rockers Antigone Rising will be headlining this wonderful event which will bring awareness and raise money for a fantastic organization that they are part of.  Girl power indeed!

Since 2014, world renowned country/rock group Antigone Rising has been helping aspiring young artists while giving back to their community, creating awareness and making history with BeachFest! Now in it’s fourth year, the celebration of the national and international work of Girls Rising (a certified 501.c.3 non-profit organization) will once again come to Sea Cliff, NY on Saturday, September 16th at 1:00PM!

The band has already kicked off 2017 with a foot stompin’ new single and a founding band member on the cover of Time Magazine. When the New York based, alt-country female rockers do something, they do it big. Catapulted into the national spotlight in 2005 with a groundbreaking major label debut that landed them in the top 20 of the Billboard Heatseekers chart for an entire year, they blazed a trail straight to arenas alongside The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.

With their FREE one day event, BeachFest is expected to attract 4,000 people over the course of the day/night with live music performances on 2 stages by national touring female artists/performers, local artisans and food/drink vendors. The centerpiece of the day is the high profile outreach workshop/Q&A panel where Antigone Rising and selected women representing science, technology and other industries come together to discuss women in business, gender bias and succeeding in male dominated industries. Last years panel was a great success, an engaging, thoughtful and entertaining presentation moderated by Emmy award winning TV personality, Carolyn Gusof.

Throughout the year, Girls Rising partners with school districts and youth centers to create empowering and innovative programming that inspires young girls through live performances, presentations and workshops. BeachFest also serves to raise funds and awareness for continued efforts.

Through this 60-90 minute outreach program, the band shares stories about their experience as women in a male-dominated industry, weaving songs throughout the discussion. The program ends with a Q&A period and song requests from the audience.Their light-hearted rapport makes every Girls Rising event unique, entertaining and informative. Most importantly, a Girls Rising outreach always leaves kids feeling empowered.

While on tour, the band presents young local female artists to open shows, giving them an opportunity to perform in front of a large audience. Artists have included 11 year old singer songwriter Taylor Gayle in Dallas, TX, Hannah Cottrell and Annie & Kate in Austin, TX, Vietnamese artist, Cue, Kalliope Jones in Northampton, MA, and Sydney Kayne in Stanhope, NJ.

With the extraordinarily empowering Festival now in its fourth year, BeachFest brings an educational, informative, and most importantly ROCKIN’ experience to 56 The Blvd, Sea Cliff, NY on Saturday, September 16th!
