The Best Spots in Manhattan For All Things Football

by Ryan Shea

Football season has officially begun today, and we have found some fantastic spots to grub down at while rooting for your favorite team.

For diehard Patriots fans, Professor Thom’s (219 2nd Avenue) is Manhattan’s Boston safe haven. Located in the heart of the East Village, Professor Thom’s boasts more than 40 TV screens, award-winning nachos, walls covered in Boston sports memorabilia, and even the occasional sighting of Tom Brady’s sister and other Boston celebs. The reigning Super Bowl champs will be taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in the season opener and have the next 17 weeks of regular season games to defend their title. Reservations are recommended for large parties and can be made by calling (212)260-9480.

Don’t have a particular team allegiance but also don’t want to miss out on the fun of football season? Boulton and Watt (5 Avenue A) is a sports hub for everyone! Games will be shown on 7 HDTV screens throughout the bar with sound only during Sunday games. For those looking for a more exclusive viewing experience, the back VIP booth comes with it’s own private TV and two in-table beer taps. New this season, Boulton & Watt is launching a Sunday NFL Menu of shareable wings, sliders, taquitos, nachos and drink specials; though, you can never go wrong with the bar’s signature burger paired with a cold beer and pickle backs made with chef’s home-made pickle juice. For reservations call (646)490-6004.

If you’re in the market for a more rowdy crowd, head to Libation (137 Ludlow Street). The three-floor bar has 16 HDTV screens split between the first and second floor and projection screens on the third floor. Come early for a pregame brunch party or stay late to enjoy weekend DJ’s. Indulge in bottle service or rotating drink specials, whichever your wallet prefers! Without any team allegiances, the bar is a safe space for all football fans to enjoy the action. Reservations can be made by calling (212)529-2153.

Downtown hotspot The VNYL, will be screening major games every Sunday & Monday night all season long, projecting them on their massive 36 ft. screen with surround sound. Come and take advantage of the killer drink and food specials with game time seating starting at 6PM (email [email protected] to reserve a table every Sunday & Monday) They’ll be kicking off the season with this Sunday’s Giants vs. Cowboys game at 8:30 PM.

Being in NYC, kitchens are sometimes just not cut out for the preparation needed to entertain – that’s where catering comes into play 🙂 Street Taco, the recently-opened bar and taqueria bringing heritage-driven Mexican street food to Gramercy, just rolled out their catering service via Caviar. Order up a DIY taco spread for pick-up or delivery and your friends won’t be disappointed!
