The fabulous JW Marriott Essex House played host to the Ackerman Institute’s Moving Families Forward Gala last night. The event benefited the vital programs and ongoing
services for children and families at the Ackerman Institute for the Family.
Founded in 1960, the Ackerman Institute for the Family is one of the premier institutions for family therapy and one of the best-known and most highly regarded training facilities for family therapists in the United States. The Institute serves families from all walks of life at all stages of family life.
The Gala honored Tamron Hall, Award-Winning Journalist with the Ackerman Family Advocate Award; Luis Alberto Urrea, Poet, Novelist, and Essayist, with the Moving Families Forward Award; and GenSpring Family Offices, David J. Herritt, Managing Director Northeast Region, with the Ackerman Corporate Partner Award.
Other VIP’s in attendance included WABC news co-anchor Bill Ritter, FOX 5’s “Good Day New York” meteorologist Mike Woods, artist Javier Gomez, Gala co-chairs Greg Rogers & Deborah Werner, honorary co-chairs’ Martha Fling and Alice K. Netter as well and Lois Braverman, CEO of the Ackerman Family Institute. It was hosted by 8-time Emmy winner and WPIX anchor Tamsen Fadal.
I was lucky enough to get a seat inside the gala, which also conducted a wonderful auction both during the gala and at the cocktail hour. I sat with some of the employees of The Ackerman Institute who were very passionate in what they do, as it is crucial for all types of people to have the therapy they need no matter what their background. Overall, it was a fantastic night that raised a lot of money and drew more attention to a great cause.
