No Menu? Why Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte is a Truly Unique Experience

by Ryan Shea

Would you ever think about going to a restaurant that actually has no menu?  What a world! Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte, located in Midtown East, prides itself on this sort of concept… and does so in a very unique way.

The idea of Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte is to focus on one dish and one dish only: Steak Frites.  Broken apart: Steak, and french fries.  The location itself reads as if you were in a French restaurant of sorts to begin with, as the waitstaff is dressed up in French maids uniforms which transports you out of New York City and into one of the most romantic cities in the world.

Here’s how it goes down.  You sit down and the waitress comes over and asks you for a drink.  Good to get a glass of wine to start with, as it balances the steak frites dish wonderfully.  Then, she simply asks you how you like your steak cooked: blue, rare, medium or well done.  You state your choice, and that’s it.  Seriously.  No menu whatsoever (except for the dessert later on), and the foodie fun games begin.

Before you get served steak frites, they start you out with some roughage with a delicious salad that is topped with a mustard dressing of sorts.  Then, you get your piping hot (don’t touch the plate at first, seriously) plate of steak cooked how you would like and a big plate of frites to go along with it.

The steak tastes wonderfully, and is served in a Porte Maillot type recipe that has been celebrated for sixty years now.  The sauce that is on it only exacerbates that overall deliciousness of the dish itself, making it the star of the show for sure.  Even better? They serve you with another round of steak and frites until you finally throw in the culinary towel from being so full.

Of course, you should have room for dessert regardless of how full your tummy is.  The decadent options on Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte’s menu is quite impressive, however their Les Profiteroles au Chocolat were simply divine.  If you are looking for a one of a kind experience here in The Big Apple, then Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte is definitely the place to go.
