Harlem Shake is one of those rare gems that is a fun place to visit no matter what time of year. Located on Lenox Avenue between 123rd and 124th street, it is the epitome of classic meets modern as it prides itself on being one of the best casual burger joints in the city. Starting today, Harlem Shake is introducing a delicious special that correlates with the premiere of the highly anticipated film Black Panther, that you’ll definitely want to experience for yourself either before or after you see the movie.
The location of Harlem Shake reads as a 50’s diner of sorts, with indoor and outdoor seating, the latter of which is beyond perfect for the warmer weather as the surrounding environment is so beautiful to look at.
The menu (seen here) isn’t overly complicated as well, and the font and look of it even reads as if you are transported 60 years back, except they are playing Migos instead of Elvis Presley on the inside (“Bad and Boujee” goes great with my burgers and fries, no joke).
I’ve been several times over the past two years, and really have no complaints whenever I go. The concept is simple: great burgers, fries bursting with flavor, and a thick shake to compliment the whole meal. You can either do a Harlem Classic with all the fixings (cheese, onions, pickles, special sauce) or go a little crazy and try their Hot Mess (not based on my love life) that comes with picked cherry pepper, bacon relish, American cheese and smoky chipotle mayo. Yum.
I stopped by there with a friend the other night to experience the Black Panther special deal they have going on. Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Lupita Nyong’o, Chadwick Boseman, and Michael B. Jordan, opens nationwide tomorrow. Based on the popular comic book series, it follows T’Challa (Boseman), after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.
The deal they have going on is downright delicious, and I went in thinking I needed to order more items as I was starving but it filled us up immediately. Called the Black Panther Wacombo Deal, it’s a patty melt on black rye with black potato fries (made from purple potatoes) and a black chocolate float. The patty melt was oozing with cheese and had a fantastic bite to it, whereas the black potato fries packed a ton of flavor as I have never tried purple potatoes before in any sort of way. Finally, the black chocolate float helped everything else go down really well, and made for a great meal.
