Who doesn’t love the addition of another yummy food truck here in Manhattan?  SONIC Drive-In, known for their legendary burgers, fries and shakes, are parking their delicious food truck in NYC this coming Thursday, where the masses will be able to enjoy their new menu item that is making my mouth water as I type: the SONIC Signature Slinger!

For those who are unaware of SONIC, here’s a brief history of how it came to be one of the most popular fast-food joints in the United States.

The company was founded nearly sixty five years ago in Shawnee, Oklahoma by a man named Troy N. Smith.  It was originally called Top Hat until it officially became SONIC in 1959.

Since then, they have become one of the premiere fast-food spots to hit up across the country.  What sets them apart from others is that you have the option to hang back in your car and let a carhop bring you your food.  A carhop is a waiter or waitress who glides along on roller blades to help you order and then deliver the tasty meal you are about to have.  They even host an annual competition to see who the top skating carhop is in their system!

Their food truck will be parked outside the Hearst building on 8th avenue, west side, between 56th and 57th street this coming Thursday between 11:00 AM- 2:00 PM.

They will be handing out their newest innovation, the SONIC Signature Slinger, which is made with a burger patty blended with savory mushrooms.  Yum.  Also on deck will be the head of SONIC’s culinary innovation center Scott Uehelein, who will be there to discuss his latest fast food treat as you gorge on just how tasty it truly is.

So if you are looking for a major score during your lunch break on Tuesday, stop by the Hearst building and get yourself something from SONIC! More info here.
