Stay Cool in the Big Apple With These Frosty Summer Delights

by Ryan Shea

Are you looking for a unique spin on a frosty, summer treat that goes outside ordering from a simple ice cream truck? Several restaurants in and around the Big Apple are looking to cool you down over the next couple of months with these delicious delights for you to devour!

Pondicheri: 15 West 27th Street (pictured above)

Just in time for summer, the Bake Lab at Pondicheri launched a new lineup of unique ice cream flavors and homemade cones with edible flowers that Instagrammers are going crazy for. Served in the NoMad restaurant or available to go, all ice cream scoops are rolled in toasted nuts and come in the following flavors: Moringa Mint with avocado, mint, coconut, moringa powder, and toasted pistachios; Indian Mango with seasonal mangoes and toasted almonds; and vegan Papaya Orange. Guests can eat the ice cream on its own or choose to spice up the visual appeal with Pondicheri’s gorgeous homemade cones covered in poppy seeds and edible flowers, in flavors like Rose Hibiscus, Turmeric Pink Peppercorn, and Moringa. Single scoops are available for $4 or in a homemade cone for $6, and additional scoops are $4 each.

Carmine’s: 200 West 44th Street

Instagrammers who love giant portions should check out the Titanic, an enormous ice cream sundae, at Carmine’s Italian Restaurant with locations in NYC in Times Square and the Upper West Side, and in Atlantic City, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas and the Bahamas. The iconic treat is a chocolate torte base piled high with six heaping scoops of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, two caramelized bananas, sliced strawberries, pineapple, wafer cookies, hot fudge sauce, and whipped cream. The shareable treat is available for $28.95 at both NYC Carmine’s locations. More info here.

Instagram aficionados seeking a delicate ice cream treat should head over to DaDong in Midtown West for the Dried Tangerine Peel Ice Cream. The elegant dish, inspired by China’s belief that tangerine peels are beneficial to digestion and antioxidant activity, features a creamy tangerine-flavored ice cream that is swirled with bright orange tangerine peels for a fresh and slightly bittersweet taste. The coiled tangerine peels and bright orange flowers, both of which are edible, make the perfect presentation for an Instagram shot. Guests can enjoy this dish – and capture an excellent photo – for $9. More info here.
