The race is held in honor of the legendary horse Cigar. Cigar was a prominent horse of the 1900’s decade. The one mile race is held in the dirt on the Aqueduct race track. Horses aged three years and above can compete in this race.

Carter Handicap:

The carter handicap race is named after after the Brooklyn tugboat captain William Carter. The race dates back to 1895 and is seven furlongs. It is run on the Aqueduct dirt track.
