Midtown East hotspot Nerai, which has some of the Greek food this city has to offer, hosted a gorgeous event on the upper level of their E. 54th street location on Wednesday that was memorable in more ways than just the meal we were served.
The event was hosted by Global Alive founder Evageline Plakas. The talented chefs at Nerai served up a four-course meal, highlighting the highest gastronomic level of Greek foods that embody the marvel of Modern Greek Cuisine.
Guests started their gastronomic journey with amuse bouche of Tzatziki and Tarama, followed by a dish of grilled haloumi cheese with fresh figs over a shaved fennel salad with toasted hazelnuts and a balsamic glaze. A perfectly Grilled Octopus came next with caramelized onions, followed by Seafood Orzo (my personal favorite) topped with mussels, octopus, shrimp and calamari. Lamb Chops were also served with honey glazed carrots and oregano jus. Last but not least, a delicious Bread Pudding was served for dessert with almonds, cinnamon, chestnut gelato and praline cream. Each course was paired perfectly with specialty wines from Greece, courtesy of Wine Director Michael Coll.
Greek National Tourism Organization North American Director Grigoria Kamaterou shared her passion for Greece and how the country is the perfect travel destination 365 days of the year. Three attendees won 5-night trips to Santorini or Mykonos in 2019 courtesy of Aegean Promo Kostas Skagias. I was sadly not one of them (oh well, womp womp).
Nerai offers a contemporary twist on sophisticated Greek dining in the heart of the city. The restaurant is ranked one of the top 75 in NYC according to TripAdvisor. It features a vivacious bar and elegantly appointed dining rooms in addition to Cava Nerai, providing two private dining spaces. For more information visit here.
