5 Reasons You Should Move to the Upper East Side

by Ryan Shea

Manhattan is filled with unique neighborhoods that each have their merits. Given the apartment-oriented living scene, it isn’t uncommon for New Yorkers to move around in search of a neighborhood that fits their lifestyle.

Some enjoy the fast, business-centric living in FiDi. Others would rather find themselves in a more artistic location, like Chelsea or DUMBO. While all neighborhoods offer something different, there’s one, in particular, that’s been drawing a lot of attention: The Upper East Side.

From the vibrant culture to new luxury apartments, this neighborhood has a little something for everyone. Here are five reasons you should consider moving to the Upper East Side.

1. It’s Wallet-Friendly

The family-oriented nature of this neighborhood creates a price point for everyone. Amidst the upscale boutiques, restaurants, and apartments rests numerous affordable dwellings. Whether you’re a young professional starting their budding career or a family of five looking to save cost wherever possible, the area has a home you can afford.

While the average two-bedroom home sells for a whopping $2 million, apartment rent ranges from the cost-effective to high-end luxury like the Renoir Apartments on the Upper Eastside. Regardless of which fits your budget, you’ll still have access to all of the area’s upscale amenities.

2. Ease of Travel

Traveling around a New York City neighborhood can sometimes be complex. The heart of the Financial District, for instance, isn’t the easiest to navigate. In 2017, the Upper East Side saw the addition of three stations connecting to the Q train to its existing 4, 5, and 6 trains on Lexington Avenue.

Having the Q train readily available makes getting anywhere a breeze, but that isn’t the only public transportation option you have. Crosstown, express, and local buses run all over the neighborhood. Plus, close proximity to the FDR Drive makes driving through city simple.

3. Rich Culture

If simple transportation from any of the Upper East Side apartments for rent wasn’t enough, then how about Museum Mile? This stretch on 5th Avenue contains numerous world-famous museums from the Guggenheim to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

You can also find numerous festivals, galleries, shows, and even a zoo all within the neighborhood. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, but it gives an excellent insight into all of the cultural attraction that the neighborhood has to offer.

4. Quality Healthcare

There are three highly esteemed hospitals in the Upper East Side. New York Presbyterian was ranked #1 in a US News & World Report annual ranking, Lenox Hill is renowned for internal medicine and child care, and The Hospital for Special Surgery specializes in exactly what the name suggests. Whatever your healthcare needs may be, this neighborhood has you covered.

5. There’s So Much to Do!

From fine dining to world-class entertainment, the Upper East Side offers some of Manhattan’s best. Locals enjoy Second Avenue for nightlife, through you can find a unique mix of bars all over the neighborhood. With a mixture of families and young professionals, the scene is also diverse.

As for restaurants, take your pick. Numerous publications rave about the variety of eateries available. Flora Bar and Met Breuer are popular choices, as is Russ & Daughters at the Jewish Museum. The choices are near endless.
