The Tang in the Upper West Side is Finger Licking Good

by Ryan Shea

Contemporary Chinese noodle bar The Tang goes above and beyond what you would expect at a location like this. Sure, the noodles are freaking delicious, but there’s so much more to this Upper West Side hotspot that is worth diving into.

The Tang first opened up in the East Village before adding a second location in the UWS on May 31, 2019.

They are conveniently located a block or so from the 1 train at 920 Amsterdam Avenue in the Columbia area of New York City.

There’s a chicness to The Tang that is noticeable once you go inside. It’s a fairly quiet spot with seating designed primarily for two people with a sprawling bar in the middle. Their outdoor design stands apart from its neighbors in a very inviting way that I also took note of the minute I arrived.

The Tang’s menu is a mixture of signature Chinese dishes that you may be unfamiliar with and others that are par for the course. Both types were deliciously amazing with every bite that me and my friend took when we stopped by there last week.

Something unique that blew me away was their Sichuan Style Coca-Cola Chicken Wings. Essentially it’s a perfectly cooked chicken wing with Mexican coke infused in it. I’m a big soda fan and have never tried pairing it with any sort of meat, but my lord does this work! Such a tasty treat to have while there.

They also have a spectacular amount of small plate options for you to enjoy. I would recommend the Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil as it’s a staple that you can never go wrong with and their Fried Peppercorn Pork Belly because let’s face it I would marry Pork Belly at this point with how amazing it is and The Tang’s version doesn’t disappoint.

If you are looking for a fab night with some delicious Chinese eats, then The Tang is the place for you to be.
