Queen Coco, One-Hit-Wonder, & Warped Tour ’04: Inspirations & Secrets of HFC Style for Repeat Outfit Annonymous

by Ryan Shea

Nothing is more unhealthy and so last season than being a Repeat Outfit Addict.  HFC’s Repeat Outfit Addict is a babe who goes through the motions of wearing the same outfits with the only creativity of figuring out when she wore it last. FASHION TRAGEDY!  We’ve all been an there (HonestFrugalChaos included), and like any addict we must admit we have a problem. Yes, I am too lazy to create new styles of outfits because [insert BS excuse here].  HonestFrugalChaos has  some inspirations and secrets that will do just the trick  to get that creativity flowing my little repeat robots!

Wisdom From A Fashion Icon and Game Changer… GFs you should write this down
“Always dress like you’re going to see your worst enemy.” -Kimora Lee Simmons

“I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little – if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.” – Coco Chanel

No one, I mean NO ONE, wants to run into a mean girl looking like a hot mess or even worse in the same outfit!? Ugh, the thought.  Babes it will be OK. If you keep the wisdom of Kimora and Queen Coco always in your mind as your approaching your closet to style an outfit.  Along with HonestFrugalChaos’ crazy inspirations and  secrets you’ll be walking the streets of Manhattan as a Style-Siren. Being a Repeat Outfit Addict will be a mem from the past!  Are you ready?

Oh Girl, You Rock That One Hit Wonder!
426Everyone loves a one hit wonder.  Some of the best music out of the 80s and 90s are one hit wonders, Chumbawamba anyone?  Let’s be honest.  No band aspires to be just a one hit wonder (just ask their record labels) and same applies to the fashion in your closet.  You see that shirt hanging out with the dust bunnies in your closet.  Yes, that shirt  you’ve worn once (or never at all), that my fashionista is a HFC’s One-Hit-Wonder. Hate to break it you GFs, but if your closet is full of One-Hit-Wonders reality is you are definitely a Repeat Outfit Addict. Let’s face the music.

Wearing One-Hit-Wonders is the first step into getting your creativity flowing as a ROA’er.   By continually giving those pieces of fashion a second chance you are allowing yourself to fight inertia with the secret weapon of a One-Hit-Wonder.  Have fun and be creative GFs!  As a friendly reminder, a true fashionista can make anything in her closet work no matter if the fashion trend is in or out.  So save your BS excuse and embrace those One-Hit-Wonders.

Crowdsurfing At Warped Tour ‘04- WTF?
photoIn honor of the music of my Youth (Taking Back Sunday, The Starting Line, New Found Glory, etc.) and the first time I went crowdsurfing at Warped Tour ’04 ,I decided I would wear outfit in  honor of these memories. I know what you’re thinking- how do you wear a memory of crowdsurfing at Warped Tour ‘04?  Easy.  I used that particular memory as inspiration to tell a story through my outfit I style with the fashion in my closet and my jewelry (or this this case a dedication to the music of my youth).  Starting with one of my band t-shirts (every show I went to I always bought a tshirt) an ending with the outfit on the left.  I know it’s crazy but it’s a trick I use all the time in HonestFrugalChaos style.

Fashionistas pick your brain for a happy memory of your youth or even something that happened way back when on a Wednesday.  Whatever the memory may be see it as a way to tell a story through your outfit that day.    This is getting you to approach your closet in a positive state of mind and getting the creativity flowing naturally as you are thinking of a happy memory. GFs you will be surprised how creative you will get.

Let’s do a quick memory outfit together… Prom.
Shirt – Could be the color of your dress
Bottom – Color of your best friend’s dress or could represent the song you rocked out  to driving down the shore.
Jewelry – Your prom’s theme ( a night in Paris, old Hollywood, etc.) You get the point.

Destiny and running into your enemy are great motivators to get your ass into gear and stop being a Repeat Outfit Addict.  It’s the first step in the right direction.  But above anything else it’s about looking good for yourself because a happy girl being herself will always be the best dressed girl walking the streets of Manhattan!  So strut your stuff you Style-Siren!

So til next time my Repeat Outfit Addicts and Style-Sirens- stay weird, be you, and …listen to Queen Coco, wear crowdsurfing at Warped Tour ’04, and turn your One-Hit-Wonder into a  Hall of Fame classic full of hits!

Watch on Thursday for my coverage of a NY Fashion Week event!  Get psyched!!
