With almost ten years under its belt, Umami Burger has gone on the fast track to being one of the best fast-casual locations across the country. After having three successful locations scattered across New York City, they have added a fourth one to the mix as their newest spot inside the gorgeous Hudson Hotel just opened up yesterday for the public to enjoy. We got a first hand look at the newest Umami Burger, and were thrilled with the results.
Umami Burger specializes in gourmet burgers, wings, sides and so much more that won’t break your bank in and out of Manhattan. Their spot inside The Hudson Hotel is quite spacious and large, and also acts as a spot for people staying in the hotel to relax and unwind but also for people to grab a delectable sandwich and chow down on the several different options that Umami Burger has to offer.

Umami means “deliciousness” in Japanese, and that is exactly what we felt when we stopped by there yesterday to try an assortment of items that are on their menu. Everything had a range of $7 to $12 per item, which is fantastic given the high-quality ingredients you would find on each of them. On top of this location being opened, they also just opened their first international spot all the way in Japan (whereas a popular haircutting chain there just opened its first spot here.

Here is what we recommend that you try the next time you are at either this Umami Burger location, or the several others that in NYC. Surprisingly, my favorite that I tried wasn’t a burger, but was their dish called Sam’s Crispy Chicken, which came with special sauce, dill pickles, and a creamy coleslaw. These four ingredients work really well with each other, as I love the tartness you get from a dill pickle mixed with the creamy goodness of a coleslaw all slabbed together with a big ol’ piece of crispy chicken.

I promise I’ll get to the burger part, I swear, but wings deserve recognition too and their Japanese Style Wings with soy glaze and a sriracha pepper mix are a fabulous alternative to the usual wings we eat all the time. Seriously, these were fantastic and didn’t even need a dipping sauce to enjoy.

Breakfast sandwich galore as they have just introduced a new sandwich that pays homage to the hotel they are staying in. Naturally, it is called The Hudson, which comes with an organic over medium egg, avocado, miso-maple bacon, fresh tomato, arugula, American cheese and garlic aioli atop a brioche bun. Such a fantastic combination of flavors, where nothing sticks out too much from the other and makes for a great sandwich to start your day.

If you are a big fan of mushrooms like I am, then their Ohayo Umami will definitely do the trick for you. This comes with an organic over medium egg, parmesan frico, caramelized onions, roasted tomato, shiitake mushroom and umami ketchup atop a brioche bun. The latter flavors in the ketchup and mushroom are quite spectacular as once again they are the alternative to the norm and make this a scrumptious sandwich. Overall, Umami Burger knocks it out of the park with uniqueness, flavor, design and more, and I look forward to heading back there this summer for seconds and thirds.
