What I Told My Students About Election 2016
November 9, 2016 was a very difficult day for me as it was for many Americans. As a New Yorker who is accustomed to the hustle and bustle of a sometimes grueling daily commute, I noticed that something was different about it that day. It was smoother than usual with less traffic but once I was in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, the air was unusually quiet. It was as if I had just walked into a large collective funeral and people were in mourning on every corner. Some were openly sobbing while others were simply drifting through their day with the morose undertones of what had happened the night before. The feeling of dread and impending doom that many felt when Donald J. Trump was elected President was sprawled across the faces of many who work and live in Midtown Manhattan, mine included. My own shock and dread over the results of the election was not about me or my pride. I am Democrat who lives in Staten Island which is the reddest borough in New York City. I have voted and campaigned for my share of losing candidates. I was concerned about how I would explain the results of this election to my students. Bustan’s Mediterranean Vibes Shines in The UWS
There are so many things to learn about this city: where to live, where to work, where to play? Because there are so many options, it can be daunting to decide, “Where do I eat?” Like many, we probably stick to our tried and true neighborhoods and eateries. I tend to head downtown toward the lights. I’ve been a New Yorker for about 4 years now and gained a solid group of friends who thankfully love to eat and often give me some great places to try all over town. My most recent culinary adventure was to the UWS. On the recommendation of a friend, I headed over to Bustan on Amsterdam and 83rd street. Butler Hospitality Launches at Manhattan Hotels & Beyond
As someone who has had his fare share of staying in hotel rooms for Manhattan Digest, a common thread that seems to fall on the negative is the lack of good room service within each location. As time has gone by, it seems like hotel guests are less likely to use room service, including food offerings in house, in lieu of going out and seeing what each city has to offer. While that is fair, this is a concept that shouldn’t be eliminated at all, and Butler Hospitality is planning on revitalizing room service in the upcoming 2017 calendar year. The Out 100 Gala Lights Up Metropolitan West
Last night, Out Magazine held their annual “Out 100 Gala”, taken place at the beautiful Metropolitan West. With the past year being particularly tough on the LGBT community, this was a fantastic event for so many amazing pioneers to come together and highlight the progress we have made overall in 2016. The event was emotional at times, yet there was an element of hope that resonated throughout. [Read more…] about The Out 100 Gala Lights Up Metropolitan West
