Manhattan Digest Fundraiser October 2nd at Gym Sportsbar

by Ryan Shea

After having an absolutely amazing first fundraiser back in March, we at Manhattan Digest have decided to do a second one in hopes that this will be even more successful than the first.  Manhattan Digest is throwing its 2nd annual fundraiser this coming Friday on October 2nd, taking place at my favorite gay bar in the world Gym Sportsbar from 7-9 PM.  Similar to last time, it will be held in the basement area of the bar, where you can come and donate money to support breast cancer research in my late mother Lisa’s memory and bid on some incredible prizes that you yourself can actually win!

We are echoing the same format we did back in March, in the form of a silent auction (raffle style) where you can take your raffle tickets and put them in the containers of the prizes that you want to win.  $5 gets you 2 tickets, $10 gets you 5 tickets and $20 gets you 10 tickets.  You are more than willing to donate more if you would like.  A very handsome gentleman from The Adonis Lounge will be at the door to give you your tickets so there is a bonus incentive there as well!

So what are the fabulous and amazing prizes that you are able to potentially win?  Take a look at what we have in store!

Check Out What’s Happening At Morton’s Grille

by Ryan Shea

Morton’s Grille, located on Park Avenue South between 18th and 19th Street, already has a lot going for it.  On top of being part of the world famous Morton’s brand, the brand new location has already received great fanfare and accolades such as being named Best Steakhouse by yours truly here at Manhattan Digest.  With all of the buzz surrounding Morton’s Grille itself, the restaurant wants to pay it back by providing its customers with some really great incentives that you should try the next time you show up to dine.

Between now and September 12th, Morton’s Grille is closing the summer out with their “Summer Finale”.  What is the Summer Finale?  Essentially it is a 3 course meal all for $30.  That is beyond a steal in any type of restaurant in Manhattan, let alone Morton’s.  So you can do a combination of great appetizers from Buffalo Chicken Meatballs to their Crispy Veggie Roll, then make your way towards the entree selection that includes top of the line delicacies like Chicken Chop Diane and a 6oz Center-Cut Filet Mignon as some examples.  You also get to choose a delicious side such as their incredible Mashed Potatoes and Garlic Green Beans and finish off your meal with their great line of desserts like Key Lime Pie and New York Style Cheesecakes.

Something else that Morton’s Grille is doing that is super awesome is their Power Hour, taking place Monday to Friday from 3-6:30 PM and then from 9 to close as well as Sundays from 3 to close.  Available only at the bar, you can come and bring your friends for some great drinks as well as fantastically priced Bar Bites like their delicious Steak Tacos and Bacon Fat Braised Ribs.  BACON!!!! Just another good reason to stop on by.

And of course, they have an out of this world Wine List where you can find any type of domestic or imported wine of your choice at a highly discounted price.  So if red or white wine strikes your fancy, Chardonnay or Cabernet is your way to go, Morton’s has it all for a deliciously low price that is sure to entice and enjoy.  Basically, just go there and have a good time no matter what the occasion is.  It really is a beautiful and great place to dine at and you will enjoy it now or anytime of the year.  For more information, check out their official site.

Why You Should Check Out Morton’s Grille on Park Avenue South

by Ryan Shea

Morton's Grille, Manhattan Digest

When it comes to quality and fine dining in New York City, Morton’s is usually a name that comes up.  For years it has given New Yorkers and tourists alike an amazing experience of high quality service, top of the line steaks, beverages, and so much more.  So why not keep that idea yet find a way to make it a bit more casual while keeping the flavor and essence of Morton’s alive and well?  Look no further than the recently opened Morton’s Grille, located on 19th Street and Park Avenue South.

Morton’s Grille, which is ran by general manager (and fellow Johnson & Wales University Alum) Tomas Ruperto II, has so much going for it all under one roof.  The original steakhouse tends to attract a certain kind of customer, however the Grille seems to have a lot more variety when it comes to their clientele.  It is a great after work spot to hit up the bar and try one of their signature cocktails while listening to a really great band perform some of the biggest hits out there. It also has an eclectic and diverse menu that would appeal to many types of palettes, from sushi to burgers to bread pudding- Morton’s has you covered.

I took a friend there last week and was quite impressed with how the entire experience turned out.  I loved how spacious the new location was, and how it had a great bar and seating area all under one roof.  I enjoyed the darker colors that decorated the floors and walls of Morton’s, and the service itself was top notch outside of what a great manager Tomas was.

Regarding the food choices, here are some that I think you may like.  A great starter would be the Shrimp Diablo with Bacon, Smoked Jalapeno and Cream Cheese.  Such a great combination of flavors all wrapped in one, and for anyone out there who is afraid to try spicy food should really not pass this up as the cream cheese takes away from the powerful jalapeno flavor you taste when trying it.  A great way to start the meal.  Keeping in line with the eclectic menu, Morton’s also has a great line of Sushi rolls for you and your friends to enjoy.  I would recommend the Spicy Volcano Roll with Crab, Scallops, Shrimp, Enoki Mushroom, Spicy Mayo, Avocado.  Totally delicious and can act as an entree as well if you choose to do that.

They also have a great section of the menu called “Lite’N Up” for ones who are calorie counting and want something a little healthier to try.  I would go with the Center-cut Iceberg with Chopped Egg, Tomato, Bacon Bits, Morton’s Blue Cheese Dressing or Thousand Island Dressing.  Something a bit more simple but exploding with flavor in all corners.  They of course have a great line of Steaks & Chops as this is Morton’s so if a Cajun Ribeye, New York Strip or Bone-In Filet Mignon strike your fancy, they got it.  With making this more on the casual side, Morton’s also has really great sandwiches that you can have if you aren’t in the mood for their fabulous steaks.  I would go for the Prime Rib French Dip with Shaved Prime Rib, Green Pepper, Provolone Cheese, Seasoned Matchstick Fries and Steak Frites with Grilled Skirt Steak, Chimichurri, Seasoned Frites.  Classic dishes that are made to perfection and worth the try.  To finish off your meal try to White Chocolate Pecan Bread Pudding with a Chocolate Bourbon Sauce.  I don’t really need to go into anymore description than what I just wrote.  Divine.

Morton’s also has some great deals going on right now!  $35 Magnum mimosas at brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, two-course prime lunch for $25 Monday– Friday, and a $35 three-course summer menu that includes a soup or salad, entree with a side, and dessert running until June 26th.  Sounds pretty good to me.

For more information on Morton’s Grille, check out their official website.  Happy eating everyone!
