A touchdown is usually described as a football term when one team makes it to the end zone and scores six points. This term can also be described as the amazing experience me and my friend had this past Sunday at Slate’s Undefeated Sunday Party. Slate, located on West 21st Street between 5th and 6th avenue, boasts itself as “New York City’s most elegant & exciting venue with full services of bar mitzvah, billiards, birthday party, bowling, private parties, ping pong, kids birthday party and more”. The undefeated Sunday Party is no exception. This is how that party goes down.
With the football season in full swing, Slate wants to make you their number one place to go to kick back with a bunch of friends while enjoying some absolutely off the chain brunch and bar bite options, prepared by a different celebrity chef each week. Before getting into the food, the location itself just screams swank. Swank to the point where there is an actual bouncer outside and its 1pm in the freaking afternoon. So naturally I knew the atmosphere had a bit of maturity to it which lasted the entire time I was there. It is spacious, with big screen televisions all over the location with room to play billiards, have a drink or lounge on their large couches and sip some champagne with your friends. I legit sometimes felt that it was 12 in the morning with how the room was lit and the amazing DJ blasting hits from the 90’s to today, but I absolutely loved it!
Onto the food, which was made by celebrity chef Darryl Harmon, owner of Harmon Live Catering. Darryl has cooked for several noted celebrities, most notably our Vice President Joe Biden. Quite impressive indeed. Not surprising at all, but the food he made completely backed up our VP’s statement, it is truly off the chain. Served from 12-2, you can opt for the more brunchy type options or stick to the bar bites to have something super delicious to munch on. We tried both and the results were amazing.
Standouts to me from his creations were the Open Faced Chicken & Red Velvet Waffle Sliders. Yes- RED VELVET PEOPLE. Holy god, you put both combined with the sweet maple syrup and the flavor explosion in your mouth is simply divine. Others that we devoured were the Fried Margherita Pizza Bites with fresh mozzarella, heirloom tomato and an aged balsamic splash as well as the Four Play Mac N Cheese Pizza which literally is mac n cheese on top of a perfectly cooked pizza with Cheetos. CHEETOS! Dead. Pair that with bottomless Mimosas and we were set for an amazing afternoon. Something that Slate really does well is that they take a concept like Sunday afternoon at a bar with your friends, which can be perceived as basic, and elevates it to such an amazing level that you really do leave with that perception thrown out the door.
You must go and try Slate out, it is 100 percent worth it and me and my friend had a blast in doing so. Check out their official site for more information.
