The word “fetish” runs rampant in the gay community. Sometimes for the good, and sometimes for the not so good (see here). Something that can easily be fetishized within this ever growing cafeteria of gay subcategories is when a guy happens to be into someone who is carrying extra weight on them. This term used to be referred as someone who is a “bear”, however the meaning of that is now so misconstrued that even I don’t know what is and what isn’t (it’s basically a state of mind at this point. Which is fine). So what happens when you are like me, and have the weight on you, but don’t like being called words like “chubby” amongst others adjectives? At what point does someone draw the line with how they fetishize a dude with size? [Read more…] about Dear Gay Men: Please Stop Calling Me Chubby. Thanks in Advance.
Celebrate National Scotch Day at These Manhattan Hotspots!
National Scotch Day hits this coming Thursday, July 27th! The first thing that always comes to mind for this is Will Ferrell in “Anchorman” where he says “Scotchy Scotch Scotch”, which actually became a limited flavor for Ben & Jerry’s. I’m diverting from the point here though! This is the one day where scotch lovers (like myself) can enjoy and rejoice in all of its scotchy glory, and luckily we have found some great spots all around NYC that are doing some big things to celebrate the day. Broadway Bodies Encourages All to Unveil Your Dancing Desires
Broadway Bodies is such a fantastic concept for anyone that just wants to dance and have a good time in doing so, without the judgment that you would feel elsewhere. Located right outside Penn Station on W. 26th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue, they encourage everyone to be in a space and find their “shame-free superstar” within them. I definitely found mine a little while back, as well as muscles I haven’t exercised since Titanic was released, and can say that I came out of the experience in a truly fantastic way. Pinch Chinese Excels in Soup Dumplings and So Much More in Soho
If I can make a quick joke here, I would say that Pinch Chinese is loosely translated to “pinch me, because this food is just too damn good”. That was my experience when I headed to the new Soho hot spot late last week to experience their comforting Chinese cuisine that included out of this world dumplings, insanely tasty broths, and more. Alice’s Arbor Perfects the Farm-to-Table Concept in Brooklyn
I have to be honest in that we here at Manhattan Digest don’t go to Brooklyn too often, although there have been exceptions (Talde in Park Slope for instance). Another great exception, which we just discovered the other night, is Alice’s Arbor, which is located right off the A/C Franklin Avenue stops at 549 Classon Avenue. They are yet another highlight of how great farm-to-table can really be, as they excel in modern American cuisine done in a fun and friendly setting.
