Casting Gods have been kind to Giuseppe Bausilio. The Swiss-born triple threat made his Broadway debut six years ago, playing the title role in Elton John’s smash hit Billy Elliot. After that, he continued his career on the Great White Way in Disney’s Newsies and Aladdin. Currently, he is crawling around the Neil Simon Theater as Carbucketty in the revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved musical, Cats. “Sotto Voce” and The Historic Gateways Inn: Two Reasons to Skip Town
Droves of immigrants are forced to leave their native lands, hoping to seek refuge in another country. When they arrive, they learn that the country they’ve landed upon does not want them. Sound familiar? It could well be a story ripped from current headlines and in fact, it is. Presumably, Shakespeare & Company chose to stage Nilo Cruz’s Sotto Voce due to its’ modern political overtones. Or, they wanted a vehicle to showcase the wonderful Massachusetts based actor, Annette Miller. Whatever their reasons, they have hit a high note with Cruz’s beautiful play. One on One with RuPaul’s Drag Race All Star Coco Montrese!
When it was announced that CoCo Montrese had been chosen as one of the queens to come back and represent in the new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 2, I’m sure the drag world breathed a collective sigh of vindicated relief. Never one to shy away from snatching a title from a queen, she became the face of tenacity under fire, lip syncing for her life a record 4 times during season 5 and eventually knocking out her arch rival Alyssa Edwards in episode 9 before being eliminated on episode 10. All the while she was scrutinized for everything from her age to her “orange” look, but she held her head high and threw green shade at all of those in her path, making them bow and seethe with envy. Now we know what she meant when she said “I’m not joking bitch!” [Read more…] about One on One with RuPaul’s Drag Race All Star Coco Montrese!

On Your Grind: The Will to Win
The Omladinsko Pozoriste, in Tuzla, Bosnia, was a two-story building with a big tree in front of it. The second floor housed a music school, where the national and city choirs got together to perform and rehearse, and a music space for rock concerts. A theatre was on the first floor. It was a huge room, with blue curtains that divided the stage.
Theater Review: Richard Strand’s “Butler” at 59E59
Period pieces can often be tricky. Many of them either rehash the same material or are more dull than a Ben Carson podcast. Nickel Mines is a play that just wrapped at the New York Music Festival performed at Duke Theater. It is a very unique play in that it demonstrates not only forgiveness, but also empathy toward the local Amish community. The play is based off of the 2006 tragedy of ten Amish girls. Broadway Barks: 18 years of Howls and Whimpers
Bernadette Peters and Gloria Estefan look terrific for stars who have been at it for over 80 years. Before the tabloids explode with untruths, allow me to clarify: This is in dog years. In reality, both of them appeared on Broadway’s famed Shubert Alley this past Saturday for Broadway Barks, an event that raises awareness and funds for local animal shelters and pet adoption agencies.
