Chris Brown

Chris Brown Arrested for Felony Assault in D.C.

by Blair Kaplan

Singer, Chris Brown, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a man outside of the W Hotel, on K and 15th Street, in Washington D.C. early Sunday morning.

Although the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor, Brown, 24, allegedly got into a verbal argument with the man before punching him repeatedly.  The incident occurred around 4:25 a.m.

Brown faces a charge of felony assault for the incident. Another man, Brown’s bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, 35, was also arrested and charged. According to the DCMP, Brown and Hollosy were taken into custody and are being held at the 2nd District police station.

The victim of the attack was taken to the hospital to treat the injuries he sustained. The DCMP did not disclose the victim’s condition, instead only stating that “he’s alive.”

Brown was infamously arrested in February 2009, after assaulting then-girlfriend, singer, Rihanna, on the night before the Grammy’s. Brown was found guilty in California of felony domestic violence.  He was placed on five-years of probation after entering a guilty plea, and was ordered to fulfill more than 1,400 hours doing “labor-oriented service.” In a Youtube video, Brown expressed deep remorse and claimed he “accepted full responsibility.” His probation for the 2009 assault was reinstated in August, after he was involved in an alleged hit-and-run, which he vehemently denied.

Brown has been scheduled to appear before Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge, James Brandlin, on November 20 for a probation hearing.

Update: The assault charge has been reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor. Brown still pled not guilty and was released without bail; he was ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the alleged victim.

Summer 2013- Best gym songs

by Ryan Shea

robin-thicke-blurred-lines-video

As summer is already here, and the winter days are gone for now, we all have a lot to look forward to while basking in the glory of the sun and being with our friends and family.  It also gives us initiative to get our fat asses to the gym and make sure we look good at the beach, walking in the city, and just being more in public as the winter time can force us to get under the covers and watch “True Blood” repeats.  I have come up with 10 essentials that will keep you jamming throughout the gym session and make the overall experience there more fun and satisfying! Take a look.

La Bouche- “Be My Lover”

If you were a GIGANTIC fan of the Jock Jams movement in the late 90’s, there was no denying this chart topping hit by this EDM duo.  With a fast paced rhythm to go along with what i like to call “melodic rapping”, this song is designed for the avid cardio-lover and help you get to that next mile.

Robin Thicke Featuring Pharell Williams- “Blurred Lines”

Thicke, more notably known for his slow paced songs like his chart-topper “Lost Without You”, has the number one song in the country with this funky dance anthem that is sure to be one of the biggest songs of the summer.

Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams- “Get Lucky”

Daft Punk have sort of become synonymous with creating insanely great dance music and the adoration of fans worldwide.  “Get Lucky” is the first track off of their new album which easily debuted at number one on The Billboard 200.

Icona Pop- “I Don’t Care”

This song has been out for a couple of months now and has been heard everywhere, even in “Shoedazzle” commercials.  It is another great cardio anthem to jam out to when sweating it out on the elliptical.

Papa Roach- “Last Resort”

Are you mad? Want to get that aggression out when you are at the gym? Blast this hit from 1999 and keep it on repeat and the aggression will be released in the masses.

Bauuer- “Harlem Shake”

This year’s “Gangham Style” became quite the internet sensation back in February with its endless parody videos of mainly the first 30 seconds of the song, yet the entire song itself is pretty dope and definitely a gym jam.

Chris Brown- “Beautiful People”

I hate Chris Brown as a person, but I love this song.  Enough said.

Kanye West- “Stronger”

This was ranked a couple of years ago as the best song to listen to at the gym, and I agree to a certain extent.  Kanye could have a couple of records on this list (Monster, Mercy) but this one suits the bill. Daft Punk on this track as well.  Yeezus.

LL Cool J- “Mama Said Knock You Out”

At a boxing gym? This will have you covered.

Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz- “Get Low”

Inescapable in 2003, and the song that quite frankly put Lil Jon on the music map, “Get Low” is hands down a beat spectacle and one that will be sure to get your heart racing when working out.

Rihanna and Chris Brown Split- WHO THE F CARES

by Ryan Shea

I have had my fair share of stating how I feel about not only Chris Brown but Rihanna in the past couple of years, and when I heard all over the news this morning from The Wendy Williams Show to Newsday to E! that they had broken up yet again so Rihanna can focus on business opportunities I literally LOL’d.  Here comes my rant about how I feel about these two, so buckle down everyone.

I have said this before and I will say it again, I DON’T GET HOW CHRIS BROWN IS STILL RELEVANT.  How in gods name is a man who brutally and viciously beat the living hell out of a woman still celebrated, awarded and adored by millions of people who can blindly look past what he did? On top of that, he’s a wannabe thug who has gotten into so many altercations with people who actually merit respect and should be celebrated for their talent (Miranda Lambert, Frank Ocean, Robin Roberts).  So once again, like Aubrey O’Day on Rupaul’s Drag Race this year, what is their appeal?

What is his appeal exactly? Can someone explain it to me? He wins the Grammy last year for Best R&B Album for an album that was all synth and nothing R&B.  He won because The Grammy’s wanted to stir commotion and get viewers, so I get that.  When every other person winning an award that night and getting standing ovations up the wazoo and people are barely clapping for you, how do you take that? When are you actually going to wake up and realize all of these childish, petty things you have done since you beat her up still don’t warrant a real apology or anything of the sort? I don’t get it.

As for her, I have my own personal feelings.  She has her own issues with press I get it, but beyond that I really just can’t stand her attitude throughout all of this.  If someone had beat up my sister and then tried to get back together with her, it wouldn’t happen.  Doesn’t she have anyone around her telling her this isn’t right? A good girlfriend, family, SOMEONE.  I mean I know she is grown and all, but the fact that no one seemed to stop this from happening over and over again really says something.  And the fact that she really is “unapologetic” really says a lot about her character and how she really doesn’t want to be viewed as a role model no matter what.

This is just my gist on how I feel.  Everyone is different, but quite frankly it bothers me that this continues to be headline news.  It shouldn’t be.  There are bigger things in the world to deal with than the modern day Ike and Tina continuously breaking up and getting back together for nonsense reasons.  That’s it.

R&B and Hip-Hop at the Grammy’s

by Ryan Shea

homepage_large.45e3c196

Music’s biggest night is headed our way as the 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be live this Sunday night at 8pm eastern time on CBS.  Some of music’s biggest names will be performing, from Taylor Swift to Frank Ocean and most recently Justin Timberlake, who is not riding high so much on his failed first single “Suit & Tie”.

So who will be the biggest winners of the night? We already divulged into Record of the Year, but who will be crowned king in the rap and R&B fields? Here are my predictions as to who will win, should win, and was left in the dust.  Leave comments if you agree or disagree!

Best R&B Performance-

miguel-adorn-video
Credit to- hiphop-n-more.com

Miguel- “Adorn”
Usher- “Climax”
Luke James- “I Want You”
Estelle- “Thank You”
Robert Glasper Experiment Featuring Ledisi- “Gonna Be Alright)”

Who will win-  This should be an easy win for Miguel as “Adorn” got a coveted nod for Song of the Year, and that it pretty much is the best of the bunch.  Grammy darling Usher could give him a run for his money, but this is a sure fire win for Miguel.

Who should win- Miguel.  Repeat what I said before.

Who was left out- UMMMMMMMMMMMMMM “Thinking About You” by Frank Ocean.  WTF.  How is this in the Record of the Year category and not in this one? It makes no sense.  Such a phenomenal R&B record and his vocals are haunting.

Best Urban Contemporary Album-

Frank Ocean- “Channel Orange”
Chris Brown- “Fortune”
Miguel- “Kaleidoscope Dream”

Who will win- Frank Ocean should be the only nominee here as far as I am concerned, and this will be his guaranteed win if he doesn’t get Album of the Year.

Who should win- Ocean.

Who was left out-  Let’s rephrase this with “Who should’ve been left out”.  Chris Brown’s homophobic ass.  Please go away.

Best Rap Performance-

Drake Featuring Lil Wayne- “HYFR”

Jay_z-Kanye_West-NiggaS-In_Paris-e1328668654333
Credit to- Straighttothea.com

Nas- “Daughters”
Jay-Z & Kanye West- “Paris”
Kanye West, 2 Chainz, Big Sean & Pusha T- “Mercy”
Young Jeezy Featuring Andre 3000 & Jay-Z- “I Do”

Who will win- God this really is a tough one, no joke.  It’s between three- Nas, Jay-Z and Kanye.  All three songs are strong in their own way.  The Grammy’s love all three, but I think “Paris” will nudge the other ones.

Who should win- Not really a fan of “I Do” or “HYFR”.  Lyrically, “Daughters” is amazing and one of Nas’ best songs ever, so that would be my pick.

Who was left out-  Don’t kill me for saying this, but I happened to love “Beez In The Trap” by Nicki Minaj featuring 2 Chainz.  The album sucked but this was a shining example of a rather dull album.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration-

Jay-Z & Kanye West featuring The Dream & Frank Ocean- “No Church In The Wild”
Nas Featuring Amy Winehouse- “Cherry Wine”
John Legend Featuring Ludacris- “Best You Ever Had (Tonight)”
Flo Rida featuring Sia- “Wild Ones”
Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z- “Talk That Talk”

Who will win-  It’s video was just as stirring as the song, so I would go with “No Church In The Wild”.  Ocean’s voice is very subtle yet powerful for a song of this magnitude.

Who should win- Either “Church” or “Talk That Talk”.

Who was left out-  SHOCKED and I’ve said this before, nothing for “Take Care” by Drake and Rihanna.  Such a phenomenal record.  I would’ve chosen the Chris Brown remix of “Birthday Cake” by Rihanna over “Talk That Talk” personally as well.

Best Rap Album-

Drake- “Take Care”
Lupe Fiasco- “Food & Liquor- The Great American Rap Album, Pt.1”

Nas- “Life Is Good”
The Roots- “Undun”
Rick Ross- “God Forgives, I Don’t”
2 Chainz- “Based on a T.R.U. Story”

Who will win- This is somewhat of a weak category, but Drake will finally earn his first Grammy after 9 nominations.

Who should win- Drake or Nas, the only two that I really think are that good for this category.

Who was left out- Either Macklemore or Kendrick Lamar.  God knows why 2 Chainz got in here, good lord.

You’re ugly behavior isn’t welcomed by anyone but Rihanna.  Have I mentioned Chris Brown is also being investigated for falsifying his community service records for when he assaulted Rihanna?  Keeps getting classier ….. frank chris

Even if it’s Frank Ocean’s fault, why we will never side with Breezy.

A recent story in the media that has been huge is of course the fight between Chris Brown and Frank Ocean that happened the night of January 27th outside of a recording studio parking lot.  This fight was over a parking space.  Yes, a parking space.  Today, The Boombox has stated that Ocean will not press charges over the alleged incident in where Brown punched him and got jumped, stating-

“As a child I thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man,” the R&B star wrote on his Tumblr page Saturday. “But as a man I am not a killer. I’m an artist and a modern person. I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit.”

If you have been living under a rock or in a country where music doesn’t exist, Chris Brown has had quite a few altercations over the past couple of years with several different people.  The most noted one is four years back where he beat the living hell out of Rihanna the night before the ’09 Grammys.  Now, they are allegedly back together and doing music as well (“Nobody’s Business”, “Birthday Cake Remix)”.  That is a story I could write about forever, but as I’ve stated in the past, it’s her choice.  She wants to go back to that, and not listen to the millions of people who think she’s a fool to go back to the modern day Ike Turner, then go for it.  Be an idiot.

He has also gone after a slew of other people from Jenny Johnson, Raz-B from B2K, Miranda Lambert and so many more.  I find it interesting when this cat came into the game about eight years ago.  He screamed rising star, and was the nicest guy in all of his interviews and I generally loved his persona and music.  I don’t get why he went from that to now looking like a Dennis Rodman lookalike who has to be so freaking gangster in everything he does. It’s baffling to me that he wants this image, but then again he still has ten million fans on Twitter, so he must be sadly doing something right.  Sadly.

All the reports online don’t really favor Chris in this because of said history with other artists and of course Rihanna.  He was seen with a cast on his arm recently, which should garner some sympathy, but for the masses of people who believe he shouldn’t be a celebrity anymore with his abuse against women, it falls on deaf ears.  Plus Frank Ocean really isn’t know for being controversial in that kind of arena.  He is just a talented dude.  This fight better not have been over homophobia either, because that would just further Chris Brown on his tour of ultimate douchebaginess.  Both of them are up for the same Grammy Sunday- Best R&B Album.  Go Frank.
