North Williamsburg is the next frontier for hipsterism in Brooklyn. Though currently still a wasteland of warehouses and auto shops along the waterfront that offers spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline there are signs of encroaching “hipness”. In April, I was lucky enough to be able to travel to Providenciales, an island in the Turks and Caicos chain of the north Caribbean. I loved the challenge of capturing the beauty of the island through my lens. Normally, I am walking the streets attempting to bring the life and scenes of New York City. I don’t often travel, I lack the funds. I was so excited to experience “Provo” and was grateful to go abroad and get some great shots. This is the first of a two part series… [Read more…] about A Manhattanite Abroad: A Turks and Caicos Photo Travel Blog
Stephen King once wrote, “A true romantic will always reject technological advancements.” By that measure, it seems that the world is in dire need of true romantics. How many of us (yes, I am including myself) take the time to actually look up from our phones when we walk down the street? Do your palms get itchy when your phone or tablet or laptop or remote control is out of view? [Read more…] about Step Away From the Device! A Photographic Response to Technology
I mentioned in my last article that as I progress as an artist I am coming to different conclusions as to the use of post editing to enhance photographs. At what point do they stop being photos and become pieces of graphic art. If you have viewed this space over the past years you will have noticed that I have come right up to this line and even past it on a number of occasions. I am a big believer that art is where you find it. Whether it’s a beautiful sunrise/sunset or witnessing a random act of kindness, we are surrounded every day by art of some kind. Walking anywhere through Manhattan you can find organic art of all sorts. However, my focus today are the actual art installations of Manhattan. These works are meant to blend seamlessly into the city around them, yet they stand out as meritorious in their own right. All credit is due to the artists whose work is shown here. I hope I have done some justice to your vision. [Read more…] about New York City Street Art- A Photo Blog
You may recall that earlier this year I shared some photos from the apartment that a friend of mine was looking at in Chelsea. He ended up passing on it in favor of another building a few blocks away. The location is great for him but a photographer’s dream for me. With views of the Freedom Tower and Empire State Building, I was able to capture some great, sweeping cityscapes. I am always remind that art is truly where you find it* and it can be anywhere, even the rooftop of your brand new apartment building.
*More on this in an upcoming article! [Read more…] about Moving to Chelsea- Updated Photo Blog
If you are a New Yorker, you are obligated to walk The Brooklyn Bridge. Yes, it could be touristy just for the fact alone that the pedestrian walkway is ALWAYS mobbed with people from all over the world, every nice day from April until October. It’s like going to the top of the Empire State Building or now the Freedom Tower. If the Queensboro Bridge has the market on quirkiness then the Brooklyn Bridge could be considered a wizened old man who has seen New York grow to be the capital of the world. It IS touristy on the surface but dig a little deeper and it’s pure New York.
On a cold Wednesday last week, I ventured out to Brooklyn. Admittedly, I have not spent a lot of time there but you can see the appeal as soon as you ascend the subway station stairs. You step out into the charm and angst which make Brooklyn known the world over, even outside of it’s attachment to New York City.
I was fortunate enough to be able to have access to a rooftop looking out towards Manhattan You can see the tip of the Empire State Building and some of the glitzier high rise apartments but it might as well been a world away. These photos, some are heavily edited for a vintage effect, only begin to scratch the surface. I hope to spend more time in the upcoming year exploring and documenting the unique (dare I say quirky?) beauty of Brooklyn.
Everyone knows Chelsea is without a doubt one of the most unique, gorgeous, and hippest places to live in all of New York City. Recently, a friend of mine who currently lives in Staten Island but works in Chelsea Market decided that wanted to look at apartments. We walked through the neighborhood drinking in all of the quirks that make Chelsea as desirable as it is for both native Manhattanites and for those residing in the other boroughs. From the local basketball court to the panoramic views from the window of the apartment my friend was interested in moving into, Chelsea shows some of the greatest charm of all neighborhoods in New York. Sometimes it takes going down under to really find some good talent. Pun or no pun, that really rings true when it comes to the handsome and talented Rogan Richards. Rogan is a jack of all trades per se, having dabbled and excelled in the adult entertainment world as well as being a known photographer and bodybuilder both in and out of his home country of Australia. His chiseled physique and great performances on screen has generated him quite the following on social media and his brash and bold personality has also made him one of the most requested performers the industry has seen in years.
Being that I am a fan, I wanted to sit down with Rogan and get to know him outside of the industry. His fresh personality is seen even throughout this interview, where he discusses his love for photography, bodybuilding and his on screen persona, as well as his take on barebacking and why he would love to work with Denise Richards at some point in the future. Definitely an interesting guy to say the least. Take a look.
Thanks Rogan for sitting down with us. So how did you get into the adult industry in the first place?
I sent my pics to a bunch of Companies I wanted to work for. Men At Play picked me up and I started filming for them and then the others came-a-knocking.
I usually find that in past interviews people in any industry have inspirations that further their want to be in the field that they are in. Were there any that inspired you?
Are you asking why I got into porn? If so, can I make something up here cause I’ve answered this so many times? Like an alien abducted me and inserted a chip in my cock and said it would blow up if I didn’t go back to earth and stick it in as many human orifices as possible, and considering I like my penis I decided to become a pornstar.
Your Twitter profile features more than just you in porn, but also about Bodybuilding and Photography. Out of the three, which is your biggest passion and why?
That’s like asking what child is your favorite! Bodybuilding is my way of life and I am passionate about sharing this with the world. Photography is an artistic passion I have. I couldn’t imagine my life without either. I wouldn’t say I am passionate about being a pornstar. I do that for fun and the amazing opportunities it provides me with.
Have you always been an avid bodybuilder or was that something that happened later on in life?
I started bodybuilding when I was 15 but I fucked around for years. It wasn’t till I got on a reality television show that I actually put some effort in. After I saw what happens when you actually apply yourself properly I hit it hard and never looked back. I went from physique model to bodybuilder and am planning on doing my first competition this October.
For people wanting to get into bodybuilding, or even get into better shape as the summer is coming, what do you recommend them doing regarding diet and exercise?
Use your brain. Too many peeps will go into the gym and ‘push’ weights around. It’s not what you do its how you do it. Also they follow fads in magazines about what to eat which is the worst thing to do. EVERYTHING you need to know on how to be a successful bodybuilder is at your fingertips with the Internet. You just have to “want” it enough to by pass the quick fixes and put the effort in.
Regarding your time in the adult industry, has it had a mainly positive influence on your life overall?
HELL YEA! It has taken me around the globe, given me some great friendships, landed me in Spain where I met my boy friend and open other career opportunities for me. Of course like any profession you’ll always come across wankers but I can say it’s been more positive experiences than negative ones.
You are seen mostly as a top however I saw that you recently bottomed for a Titan movie. Are you open to becoming more versatile in scenes or do you prefer being one or the other?
In my personal life I’m 100% ALPHA TOP FULL THROTTLE. Having said that, I am a crowd pleaser, so maybe in the future you might see me playing out crowd requests, so to speak.
Barebacking in the adult world has becoming hugely prevalent to much criticism. What is your take on that part of the industry? Do you condone it?
None of us want to wear a condom when we have sex. And I think the black and white approach of safe sex or no sex is oblivious to the younger generation who weren’t subjected to the Aids propaganda in the 80s and the older generation who lived through it are tired of it and much more carefree. It’s not about condoms anymore its about education. EDUCATION = PREVENTION. If you are big enough to have unprotected sex you should be big enough to educate yourself on what risks are out there, what activities subject you to what risks, and most importantly be getting sexual health checks on a regular basis.
Porn is selling a sexual fantasy so I am not surprised that rubbers are vanishing from the screen. To ask if I condone or condemn this is too black and white. I have chosen to only shoot safe sex films till this point in my career not because I don’t want to glorify bareback sex but because I haven’t been presented with a reason or want to do otherwise.
Is there anyone you are looking to work with, both actor, director or both, that you would like to work with?
I would die if I got to work with Denise Richards in a Bruce LaBruce film.
What plans do you have in 2015 and beyond?
My immediate plans are to launch my WAY OVERDUE web site and get my USA VISA. After that, “WORLD DOMINATION!”
Anything you would like to add to this interview?
It’s ALL about the FLEX!
Be sure to keep up with Rogan Richards on all of us social networking sites!
